Uh Oh. Battery dieing? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #61035 8 posts Started by cnelson
Ok, so i installed a new headunit and 4 new speakers today. (30 rms each, headunit puts out 22 rms)

I also have some LED lights hooked up, but i don't think there draining my battery.

Heres the thing. My batter died twice today. First time was when we working on the car. I Had left the key in and the lights turned on to test things out and such. (headunit was on) I had the key in for about 45 minutes to an hour. Went to start the car.. and it wouldn't start. Ok, my friend jumps me.

Than later than night. I was sitting playing with the settings on my radio with the car off but the key in turned to ACC. It had probably been 10 minutes or so, than i went to start my car and same thing. So my friend had to jump me again. Now i believe i may still have the ORIGINAL battery i'm not sure. I can even tell when i go to start the car that it seems to struggle a bit.

My question is; Is this probably because of my new HU and 4 new speakers and such an old battery? OR i did re-wire my LED lights also, could it be a bad ground or something. Would that drain the battery? (keep in mind that i only have 12 LED lights, and two little LED light strips that are being powered and i highly doubt that would drain my battery that quick)

I am going to get a new battery. But does everything think that will fix my problem, or am i looking a bigger problem here?

Thanks for any help.

its sounds like a battery problem...
take a multimeter and check your grounds, then check your battery...
you can always go down to a auto supply store and have your battery checked, like shucks(sp)...
your battery may have not been fully charged after the first time it was drained. also you may have a bad connection on one of the terminals or your ground so it's not getting the juice it should be to get a good charge on it.

Call me a traitor! See if I care. ;)
yeah, i have a feeling its the battery. i'm going to get a new one, and a volt gauge (which i've wanted for a while) that should put my mind as ease. at least this way i'll be able to tell if its getting low.

#1 depending on your sounds set up will drain your battery. Is your alternator charging your battery?

Yes it must be charging the battery because i drove around all yesterday without any problems. I just made sure that if i had the car off that i didn't listen to my music to loud or to long, so i wouldn't drain the battery. I believe i may be over reacting. I'm sure its probably just the battery, its the original battery from 1994 so it's pretty old.

ha. I really wanted to, my friend has one.. however my dad and even my friend have concluded that it would be unnecessary and since i'm going away to school next week i need to save ever dime that i can.
