Multicolored factory gauges? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #61122 32 posts Started by bdog_v
Hello I am trying to add some color to my 94 celica gt factory dash lights for the speedo, tach. I have already converted the dash light to blue LED's these helped alot but I want some color possilbly

-keeping the blue numbers and getting some red needles or putting a red LED in the dash just for the needles.

1.The problem is how to accomplish this? YOu can't just change the bulb for the needles to red as they also light up the numbers around the gauges correct? It has been a few years since I swapped the lights.
-I was thinking of accomplishing this buy using this companies http://www.speedhut.com/custom_gauge_dial_...o_number-44.htm custom gauge overlays as the are
(self lighted) then I could get them with blue lighting for the numbers and simply change the dash light to a red LED for the needles. Has anyone done this?

2. Then I would also like to get the rpm redline to light up red and possibly some sort of red glow around the speedometer and tachometer. I am not sure how to do this?

3. Also I will be keeping a black faced background (I don't want to go to the white reverse glow style face) PLus I have doggys I believe gauge seperator that lays ontop of the factory gauges and seperates them.

4. Does anyone have any pics? Or where should I buy some red Led's that will fit in the dash? Thanks.....

i dont know if it will help you but i just ordered those gauge from speedhut
(with black background and blue number)
i will post pics when received and installed
Awesome I need to see many pics to help me make up my mind!

Thanks!!
Im in the middle of doing something like this..What im doing is that i put a red vled bulb in the first hole [nearest to the tach] and then glued in some yellow gels from 1-6k rpm..then glued in red gels from 6-8k.That also gives me a red needle and for the rest of the holes i used vleds blue bulbs.I'll take some pics and post later.
Thats awesome Iam definitaly interested in some pics and a good explanation if it works out well for ya!!!

do it yourself its a lot cheaper. Most the stuff they are offering is stuff that you can do at home if your carful, plus you can do a lot more yourself then what they are offering. Go to a junk yard and find a wrecked Celi and pull the cluster out and go to town.
I painted my needles red with paint that you buy to paint on glass. It's transparent and requires several layers but if you're patient, it looks really good IMO. Start by using a Q-tip and nail polish remover to remove the white coating on the surface of the needles, then you can either use a small brush or another Q-tip (I found the Q-tip to work best) to apply the paint. It works best if you use those cheap crappy generic cotton swabs because they have less cotton on them and they don't get fuzzy as easily. Let it dry between layers too, and just keep building the layers up.

Cell phone pic, looks like a bulb is out on the tach but the color is pretty close to actual color (well the blue is bluer) but red is close
Edit: looks like I have a red bulb in because of how the odometer reads, but it's actually just a regular halogen 194. Cell pic just didn't pick that light up well is all.

I have a kit from SpeedHut on the way - custom design, but I'll be sure to post them up once they're installed.

I'll also be swapping out my BLUE LED's in the gauge cluster, for RED ones. thumbsup.gif

http://www.autolumination.com/ - is where I buy all my interior LED's from.

Just a heads up - I have the red 5 way ones from Culpable and I've had several other type before too and that stuff they say about red gauges making your eyes tired on long trips is somewhat true. I had a long trip not too long ago at night and they can become tiring to look at [But no weird distortions or anything stupid like some of those sites say]
Blue is alot easier on the eyes and brighter too.

What did you use to power your indiglo gauges? If you ran them to your dimmer, that could be why your lights don't work. Tap into a different wire to power your indiglos (such as an ACC wire on the back of an aftermarket stereo) and your cluster lights should work just fine.
Someone knows how to peel the needles off?

For those gauges, I'll just get used to KPH....

Where did you find them? I haven't seen any as amazing as those... Hell, I'd make them if I had the ability. Could you post day pictures as well?

i was looking for something simple that look stock (aka not white)
and i ended whit those custom SPEEDHUT gauge
(i draw the celica word in photoshop)
simple to install and the final result is amazing(a bit costly tho)
