Topic #61495 7 posts Started by Dtuner17
i have a 97 gt with an alarm that i believe came with the car. the alarm does not work and just kills my battery
leaving me to disconnect my battery everytime i park the car. i need to know if there is a way to remove it.
and if there is maybe a fuse that i can take out for it that would help. please help
It would be helpful to know what kind of alarm it is... the box should be located under your driver's seat.
i dont know what kind it is but im pretty sure it came with the car when it was bought at the dealer new.. i will check under the seat to see

Or next to the steering column. If it's OEM you can take it to the dealer and they'll usually deactivate it for free or call them and they'll walk you through the procedure.
I've had to do this for a couple of other members who had the same problem as you before.

I would think it would depend on who installed it. Different installers put them in different places, unless of course its OEM...
Dude, i just went thru a similar nightmare. And a nightmare it was mad.gif Secondly, If it came with the car, dont mean nothting. It could have been installed at anytime sense the car has seen the street. (and remember that basic alarms are only like $20 at autozone) so it's the more *popular* option frown.gif

Start by getting under your stearing colom, Remove the 2 philips screws holding the panel with your dimmer switch and key hole and remove that panel. Then remove the panel above your knees in driving position. 4 philips and 2 "clips". Undo the hood release; 2 philips. Then you have to remove the bracket behind that pannel. 4 10MM bolts. Now you should be able to find a motion sensor, (box with a red and green light *usualy*) This is the most common place to mount thees things.

Now follow the wiring band up to the "brain" of the unit. No telling where that's stuffed. You'll just have to follow the wiring. When you get to that 'brain' then you simply need to discounect EVERYTHING that it's attached to. MAKE SURE THAT IF SOMEONE HAS SPLICED THE WIRING THEN YOU PUT IT ALL BACK PROPERLY!! otherwise your car may not start, windows may not operate, doorlocks may not work, ect.
