Hey all,

For all you ST owners what do you shift at? I'm talking about during normal street driving. Performance would be different. I was shifting right about 3k but sometimes it would studder a lil bit in the next gear like I shifted to early. This espeicaly happens if I have the AC on full blast >>. But if i wait to shift at like 3500 I feel like I'm raggin my car out. What is your opinion?

3500 should be fine. Thats probably what I shift at on my GT and I did on my old ST

I generally shift anywhere from 3,000 to 3,500 RPM when I'm just cruising around.

3k normaly for me, but 3.5 when I wana actgualy start well, depends how shallow my pockets are for gas money >>

I shift around 3000-3500.
Infact I think the ST has a "power" band around 3200rpm.

If you shift with too lower revs and too slowly you get a sort of lag...at least I find that.

damn I must be beating my car then, I bring it to about 4500 normally, but my engine is being replaced soon and I will baby the new one much more.

yea 3000 rpm sound right. I ussually let off the gas when i feel like i want the auto tranny to shift.

remember to turn off OD to get it to shift sooner, i ussually turn over drive on right when i hit 45mph to shift to the final gear.

well, on my gt, I usually shift at about 4k, I used to have a corolla with the 7a-fe, but I couldn't tell you wher I shifted at(no tach)

Our celica's have smart trannies, that monitor the engine stress and determins whens the best time to shift. OD off means that the tranny is using a smaller gears, so the engine doesn't have to work as hard. causing less engine stress so the tranny shifts sooner.
