3M Scratch Remover = WOW! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #61764 29 posts Started by GotToyota
I decided to have a go with scratch remover today after wanting to remove swirls/scratches my paint had. I bought 3M Scratch Remover for $7 from Wal-Mart, comes in an 8oz. bottle. I started using it, and the surface already started looking fantastic. Then came my roof, I couldn't believe what I saw:

Pretty much the whole car was like this (where there was original paint). I'm guessing it was years and years of road grime, and this stuff removed it like it was nothing. Here was how my spoiler looked:

As far as scratches went, it also did very well at eliminating scuffs and minor scratches (it did cover some noticeable medium/heavy scratches I had pretty decently). Afterwards I put on a new coat of Eagle One Nanotec wax, the car looks better than it has in years. Sorry for lack of pics with the final product, I finished around sunset. I'll get some pictures tomorrow showing the final result.

I did it by hand because I'm poor. frown.gif

But it still turned out great for what it was.

go to walmart bro and get one for like 20 bucks its what i did, or come borrow mine lol
I should do this too, I've always said I'd throw in a really good detail once...

Not to jack the thread, but is there anyway to clean the dirt out of the seat other than steam cleaning?
daaaaaaaaaaannnngg 3M is stepping up the game! lol.

Haha, I do what I can. wink.gif

What do you mean I wasn't at the Texas meet? Do you mean the South Texas meet? I hardly have any free time anymore due to school, and I'm not exactly rolling in any money at the moment.

Nice, i supposed its labeled as a scratch remover but it really does polish the whole paint.....are you going to scratch remove your whole car? hehe

It looks like it removed years of build up, more then it did the scratches. Claybar would have probably given you similar results.
To really take out the scratches, you need a compound like that, with a rotary buffer.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
Can you use that on a black car? some of the scrach removers that i have seen says it shouldnt be used on a black car.

I don't see why not. On the case it shows a black car, so it should be able to work.

For those asking, I did my whole car. Here are pics of the final result:

Yep, look in the car cleaner section. I did it by hand, gives me a much better feeling of accomplishment. smile.gif
I love those wheels, I gotta get some of them, will they just fit straight on our cars or will they need spacers?

To be honest, the fronts are fine but the rears could use a 5mm spacer to even them all up.

BANNED. for life, you moron.
makes me wanna go buy that stuff!

You say you don't understand how we go dumb, but have you ever been where i'm from?-=-] Livin it in tha bay's a lil different [-=-
Good quality polishes will do that, as they include paint cleaners as well as abrasives to level the finish.

Note: GOOD quality. Any random scratch remover does not quality. Mothers, Meguiar's, Zymol, 3M and similar brands are where you'll find good polishes.
That looks real good, I'm definitely going to do that to my white celica *COUGH*best color*COUGH*. Your whole car looks real clean man. Thanks for informing me.
do you think the 3M stuff works better than the meguiars scratch x?
Never used either, actually -- I use Meguiar's 80 (Speed Glaze) with a DA polisher. My shoulders won't stand up to manually polishing the car, never mind washing, claying, polishing x 2, waxing x 2 (plus the trim and glass work).
Thanks for the comments guys. smile.gif
