Going to replace my
-tranmission fluid, new filter at the same time?
-clutch fluid
-engine oil doesn't need to be done yet
-radiator was done a while ago
any others I should think about doing brake, power steering?? (remember this is a japanese car)

recommendations on what brand and grade fluids I should be using?

Most important is of coaurse engine oil and transmission fluid. you could also do fuel filter, clutch and brake fluid is the same thing and if clutch and brakes are fine you don't really need to worry about it, same with power steering all you have to do is see that it is topped up. You could also do a tune up and get new spark plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor.

sorry I cant recomend grades of transmission fluid because I have a different celica, they may have the same gearbox and diff, if so you can use 75-90w.

brake fluid needs doing every 2 years - worth changing if you aint sure. p/s fluid often gets overlooked - check the condition and colour of the fluid, again if in doubt change it. i've used Valvoline synthetic oils - as good as Mobil for less money i think.
yeah thats what I forgot the fuel filter, I want to do that aswell

For brake fluid I use Valvoline Dot-3 full synthetic. I need to do my clutch fluid soon as well, and I'll be using the same fluid.

The brake fluid HAS to be at least DOT-3; IIRC you can use DOT-4, it is equally as compatible, but DOT 5 contains silicone which I'm not sure works for our cars (depends on what our caliper piston boots are made of so it's better to be safe than sorry)
I asked on toyspeed they say any Dot4 for clutch and Castrol VMX for the gearbox

Yeah, don't use Dot-5, it's meant for use in heavy trucks.
just wondering my p/s fluid is black as night... how do i change it? is it possible to use a turkey baster or sumthing along those lines to suck out the old n pour in the new? cuz i dont see a draining plug

2 ways to do this...

1 way is messy and you need a helper
2nd way is cleaner but costs more

1st way is to shoot all the fluid out the return hose into a container by bumping the key with the return off. need a friend to hold the hose and container. refill the reservoir and bleed the air from the system by turning the wheel to the lock one way, bump the engine, turn to the other lock, bump the engine, then refill and turn the engine on slowly working the wheel side to side.

2nd way is to just suck the reservoir empty and refill with clean, do that every day or so until its clean.

DOT 5 should not be used in vehicles with ABS brakes as it has a tendency to bubble. It's fine to use with non-ABS brake systems, it just really isn't necessary. It's not so much because its for use in heavy trucks and BMW's, but it's military grade stuff and cannot be mixed with anything less than itself, it's difficult to flush brake fluid without mixing it with whats already there.

If you have a manual transmission (which I would assume since you're asking about clutch fluid) has no filter, you just drain and refill it.

I'm about to do my oil change again, and I don't mean to jack your thread, but how many quarts is it for a drain and fill (5S)? I haven't done it in a few months and I forgot.

Sorry, I meant quarts of oil.
Hey Matt, 4.2 w/out oil cooler, and 4.5 w/oil cooler. From the BGB maintenance section.
How on earth do you know if you have an oil cooler or not? I don't think mine has it.
Good question, I should go and check the BGB on that.
