Can this sub be salvaged? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #61919 13 posts Started by GotToyota
My friend gave me a 12" Type-R that had the rubber surround blow from the cone. Is it possible to fix this with some kind of adhesive to get it back on and working again? Here is a picture:

you could try a CA glue or something like that it sould hole if you can give it presure i would just take it easy on the sub for a lil while to make sure that it will hold good and dont give the woofer to much power those type r's really dont want more than 500 watts

What exactly is CA glue? I wanted to see if standard super glue could work first.

And I won't be powering it up in my car for awhile, I just wanted to see what I could do to get it fixed.
my friend had some type rs but and he blew them underpowering them and it looked alot like that. He glued them back with i think super glue and they sound about like they did before (very underpowered) but it has held for almost a year now.
CA glue is basically super glue with a special chemical in it to make it dry faster and a little stronger, it can be had at hobby stores and Krazy glue from walmart is the same thing it just takes a little longer to dry, you normally dont have to use a lot of it but it couldnt hurt to use a good bit for something like that
def try some glue and take it easy on it at first... I have two type R's and they do like to be around 500 rms a piece.
Use Poli-bond. its a flexible adhesive that i used to salvage my sub biggrin.gif

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

Where can it be found at? I'm going to Wal Mart today to see what I can find.
it looks bad but a regular clear silicone culk if you can access from both sides will work fine.
don't use super/crazy glue if the surround is rubber!

it will eat the rubber away!

i learned the hard way!

Is this good enuff 4 ya? :D
find some ruber opoxy that should work like tire repair glue or something
There's a fabric glue you can get at Michael's or a craft place called Tacky glue - it would be perfect for this because it will retain a little bit of flex. Basically it's like Elmer's glue but WAY stronger and with that little bit of flex.
RTV anyone? Used it at work to seal an air leak on a portable air breathing unit. Thats gonna put out way more pressure than the sub.
