well i just heard the John Mayers version of Free Fallin.
and i was like wtf this is crap compared to the og, i like some of the remakes of the older songs like smooth criminal, beat it and stuff like that but he didnt do it justice.
sorry for the rant what you people think
I've heard it too... and hated it. lol
But I've never liked John Mayer much to begin with anyways... His voice creeps me out and his music is too cutesy imo.

yeah i know what you mean
I heard it in the supermarket with my buddy. I point out what it was and we both exclaimed WTF this is lame. butchered.

yeah it really was the worst song redone i have ever heard
A cover should be done in one's own style. To hear it for the first time and not know it was a remake. Other than that, bogus. Some people are just really hard up for cash and will do anything or be like "Look! I can sound like them", in that case..... Tribute Band @$$hole! All of America's music is in Major Chords. How hard is it really to make a song? C'mon.

true that, that why all the Micheal Jackson remakes have done so well cause they are in the bands own style and not mimicing the original.
I didnt think the remake was too bad... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZqEqypU4cs <--- good remake of a song (better than the original IMO)

Fred"...Armed with backbone and busted zoo gates, promising you from the bottom of my harmonica pocket - FOREVER - you will never have another lonely holiday..."
yes cause they made it there own, and not trying to live up to or mimic the original artist

That is very much an opinion. IMO [One from a Cure fan from waaay back when this song came out] this is total butchery and just plain horrible. That's IMO of course. These guys can't begin to claim half the talent the Cure had when they wrote that song with the lineup they had at the time. Furthermore, that song was actually a huge hit in an era when music like that just didn't get any play in America and basically made them a known band in the States.
Sorry - not trying to rant or be off-topic but I cringe everytime I hear that version. Jack-off-Jill did it way better as did others.

heres the deal-
can john mayer ever do what tom petty ever did with that song...definetly not...ever
that being said he did manage to add his own stylings to it musically i.e. tempo rhythm and all the actual musical type stuff
even if you dont like the song you do have to admit that it is much more tastefully done than many other remakes of good songs...(like free fallin)
also it should be noted that when a big name like of music today (like john mayer) chooses to do a song from an older generation it is usually out of respect and admiration b/c that person thinks its good enough...i dont think john mayer should be put down for doing a remake but im also definetly not saying you should like the song
