Eh...this sucks, got the 3SGTE and since it won't pass smog and it seemed we were going to have some complications in putting it in, I decided to give it up and just put the Burrien turbo onto the 5SFE.
I think I would need metal head gasket, FMIC, Forged Pistons, and camshafts for going high hp?
Where can I get the cam shafts and forged pistons. Is webcams cam shaft good for the turbo kit I want?
Thanks
man that sucks. i guess ur dream has been shattered. Good luck tho
we dont get smog tests in our area, they test the lights and thats it lol, i dont have to worry about that
why would you spend 2500 on a kit when you have a better one on the 3sgte? Use the parts from that and you will have a better kit for less.

thats a good idea bryan
its what i was gonna say but eh too late
also Jabberwock, since you are already talking about high horsepower make sure that you get an EGT and Air/Fuel Controller, also new fuel injectors(if you dont use the 3s-gte's) and new higher flow fuel pump
the 5s-fe i wouldnt boost past 13 psi even with new internals and a FMIC. or you could always replace the head with the 3s-gte head and see how that passes smog
I LOVE IOWA WOOOHOOO
(no smog, no typhoons, no earthquakes, no landslides, mudslides, hurricanes, hardly any tornadoes, fine DISEASE FREE women)
EDIT: no avalanches, glaciers, monsoons, volcanoes

Hey man i dont know if this is true but my friend told me that if u redline every gear and make ur engine as hot as possible it burns off excess emissions. I heard that this works with SR engines in 240's but it should work for all JDM engines. If you want go for it on the way to the smog check.
Thats a good Idea I could use the 3SGTE as parts, but I was thinking of just getting new stuff since the celica only has about 18000 miles on it and the MR2 had about 40000 miles and it was only the front clip?
And for smog checking, it won't pass with a SWAPPED ENGINE unless you try to register it with the new engine and that will cost a friggin' BUTT LOAD in CALI. I COULD GET IT PASSED SINCE IT IS MY OWN SHOP BUT MY DAD IS SELLING IT..WHICH IS WHY I AM TRYING TO SPEED UP THE PROJECT. HEHE
I was also planning on boosting only around 11-12ish.
Is it safe to boost at 10-12 with just the intercooler or do I need AFC, EGT, pistons, and cam shafts.

I wouldn't boost past 7psi without the upgraded internals. You could prolly do 9psi without hurting too much as long as you weren't on the boost all the time. If you wanna do 12psi, I'd go ahead and get some JE Forged pistons made, get the camshaft regrinds, and get some kind of fuel management system...in which I recommend going all out and getting the most power you can and get some kind of Standalone Engine Management System, such as the PRS8 from www.perfectpower.com. Just make sure you also remember the regular boost mods, Boost Controller and a Turbo Timer.
See, many people think that since the 5SFE is an economy engine and the 3SGTE is a performance engine, that the 5SFE can't put up with a lot of boost. The only huge difference is in the head, because the blocks are essentially the same. If you upgraded all of your internals, you could easily boost higher than 12. This doesn't just mean pistons...this means pistons rings, cams, valve springs, etc. It all depends on how far you wanna take it.
Definitely make your references be GT2GT4, bwilson, west_minist....and one other I forgot to mention. These are the guys that know about this stuff and know it real well. They know the order things must come in, in order to make the car run well all of the time.
And definitely upgrade fuel and ignition system if you're going to run over 7psi.
95 Toyota Celica GTDead for now --> Soon to have a 3S-GTE02 WRX --> This is for speed- Borla Exhaust- TurboXS BOV- Custom CAI02 Civic EX- MB Quart Reference 5.25" Components- Rockford MTX 8" Subs in the doors- Alpine Type S Rear Fills- 2x Alpine SWR-1042D Subs in a custom fiberglass box- Alpine F345 Amp for the front doors- Alpine M605 on each Type R- Phoenix Gold wiring- Alpine CDA-9855 Head Unit- Alpine Amp link- 2x Rockford Fosgate 1 Farad Caps- The best Viper 791 alarm install ever
so without anything (intercooler, cam, pistons, etc.) I can run 7 and under PSI safe enough not to hurt internals?

I was told that it was illegal to swap engines?
As I also said, I am selling the shop, so if by any chance I need to smog again, I might have a hard time.
Or maybe I should register the car in nevada and maybe get an apartment there ....hmmm...hehehe
If I do the 3SGTE swap is it reliable? Because both my dad's mechanic were against it, except the one who was going to do it was going to do it for sure, but he is really inexperienced and wanted directions....
So if I can get an exact HOW TO DO then the green light is flashing.....

i know for a fact that my JDM 3sgte isn't legal here. California is one of the most strict states about this subject. But i dont give a ****.
This is my baby ( celica ) and i will do anything to make sure she runs the ways she's supposed to.
Long live JDM motors.
You also seem to be forgetting that if you do throw on the Burien Turbo kit, it's not street legal, they'll even tell you so. There's no CARB certs for it, for off-road/show use only. That won't pass smog either. The rule on swapping engine (aside from EGR stuff) is that the engine has to come from your year of car, or newer. This applies to any engine, for any car.
REally? IT won't pass smog visually? or the sniffer way? It doesn't say for off-road/show use only....on the site
On the burrien website it even says this, "You now have a sports car capable of running with most of todays sports cars costing $30,000 to $40,000, and it was done at a fraction of that price" Doesn't that imply street?
I am not really sure, but if that won't pass smog then...dunno what to do.
THE MAIN THING FOR THE 3SGTE WAS THAT BOTH MECHANICS DID NOT RECCOMEND IT, AND THE MECHANIC WHO IS GOING TO DO IT FOR ME IS PRETTY INEXPERIENCED WITH THIS STUFF & SORTA SEEMED LIKE HE WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME ON IT.
Also if I go with 3SGTE I am having a hard time finding a good transmission for it?
Jabberwock.
There is a way for you to have your car be "Street Legal" with a 3sgte motor.
I heard of some ppl who did this.
Since you have a 94 celica, you can get the 3sgte motor from a 94 or 95 mr2 here in the US. You do the same thing and swap the motor. When the swap is done, you take it to this place where they inspect the car and the engine. They verify that the motor is newer than your car, they do the paper work, and make it street legal.
That way if you ever get pulled over or for any reason have to open your hood, nobody can say anything cause the state made your car legal.
Let me find out exactly were you have to go to make it legal.
But i know for a fact that it can be done. ppl do it all the time with 240's and a SR20DET.
That's correct sphinx. You don't have to GO anywhere to make it legal, just have to have the paperwork on the engine, give the serial number and the year of it. Sure, the cops will hassle you, maybe even ticket you. But if you have all the stuff in line, you take that shiz to the judge and make that cop eat his own damn ticket. Remember, in Cali, you will get profiled, you will get ticketed. Plain and simple.
P.S. I've talked with Burien b4, and they have said they have no plans to make it street legal, too much involved, and prolly wouldn't anyways.
Yes I know that, I said that before, and its called registering your car over again with the new motor. And its costs a butt load of money to do that and you have to pay tax for something. I wa going to do that......i said in an earlier post
YES!!! I got the engine...hehe but I am paying a butt load for it. My mechanic talked to Venus auto and they sold him a ST215 3SGTE for 2800 and they wouldn't take credit card so I got put some cash together for a money order...damn. But I am getting the engine in 2-3 days since they are really close
really close? They're in Sacramento....also, a 215, that means a 4th gen 3SGTE from a Caldina? Fascinating...also, Venus has been known to have defunct stuff occasionally. They get their stuff from Hong Kong, where they have less strict standards on vehicles than Japan does. Just make sure the turbo is in good condition and the CR is right, good luck!

I am not the one that is really paranoid....it is mostly my mechanic and my dad, but I was thinking of registering it in Nevada with nevada plates....hehehe
