post on headers - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #62494 36 posts Started by BeefyT
I was reading celicav's post about the ebay headers and i was wondering how it would sound if i have stock exaust? Im planning on getting the headers and i dont

want my car to sound ricey. I will eventually get a cat-back exaust but i wanna get the headers first.

lol
the only difference I noticed was a growl whenever I would start up the car.
woooo ! can't wait to install it!

2004 Nissan Altima 2.5S.A few mods =]
I ran just the header for something like a month before I got my exhaust done, and there is a sound difference, you MAY feel a little more umph on acceleration but more than likely no.. If you have a CAI or SR than it will just sound even better, CAI was my first mod and when I fired it up the first time it was like a whole new world opened up for me, when I installed the header and fired it up I think I jumped to another world. Adding an exhaust will only make things better, just don't buy a muffler that is too loud. I have a borla xr1 muffler (I think, i don't remember) and it's quite loud but there are many mufflers you can get that aren't that loud but sound good.

From what I've read, if you swap out the original 5sfe (not sure what engine you've got) with a tubular design, you should get improvements all the way around, along with better sound. If you can, get a 4-2-1 header, it'll just make you set up run that much smoother.

Ooh, which ones did you put in? I checked Ebay for some, and they're either for the 1.8L or they're the 4-1 for the 2.2 It's fine, I just need 5S-FE headers that are 4-2-1 that will fit (I keep reading that the MR2's won't).

I'm interested in pics!

Sri will sound great too. Idk what it sounds like exactly cuz I have a cai but from what I've heard sri sound great too. The header will add sound and I haven't seen any other header for the 5sfe other than the ebay 4 to 1 header

id like to know too tongue.gif

Headers makes diferences!! I put ebay headers some weeks ago..
You fell the car kick in a lot sooner in RPM range, response when you hit the pedal is better.
But headers is good only if you gone make update on the rest of exauths parts.....If you keep stock the rest of exhaust parts i think you will not fell nothing special.

So put headers BUT alson change the rest of exhaust parts...cat-back....muffler ...

4-2-1 is the best ALL-AROUND option.

thank you id keep that in mind for when i purchase mine wink.gif

I think the 4-2-1 is literally like saying 4-to-1. Cuz any header for the 2.2L is 4 pipes that go to one 'downpipe'. That's just my take on it

Not quite... wink.gif

4-2-1 is the 4 pipes from the exhaust ports on the head, collecting into pairs (2), and then each of those collecting into one. 4-1 is same thing, except they don't pair off, they simply collect into a single pipe.

Ok well as far as I kno that isn't available for the 2.2, the header in the pictures above collects into 1 pipe
do you guys have any idea where i could find some 4-2-1 headers for a 97 7afe?
Does anybody know what size the downpipe for the ebay header? Is it 2.5"? I'm planning on doing a full exhaust swap with 2.5" piping soon. Just want to make sure that everything with fit properly.

to my knowledge there are no 4-2-1 headers for the 5s produced at this time. You'd have to go custom (expensive). As for the CAI/SRI I recommend it. I've got a SRI and it sounds badass, my favorite mod so far.

Zeros2: i've seen st headers on ebay that are 4-2-1

Is the outlet for the ebay header 2.5"?

1999 Celica GT Hatchback
any help?

1999 Celica GT Hatchback
Not sure on the outlet. It's safe to say it's 2.25" though.

The difference from 4-2-1 is pretty simple. When your pistons fire, they fire in a pattern. I can't remember exactly what it is, but it's usually like 1-3-2-4 or 3-1-2-4. So when you have exhaust exiting from one cylinder, you have another igniting right behind it. The section that has 2 pipes makes a huge difference in your exhaust. One side will literally pull exhaust out of the other side once it fires. Basically, it creates a vacuum, this in tern pulls more exhaust out quicker giving you much better flow.

4-2-1 are usually standard on all race bikes and cars. I'm lucky enough to have an akrapovic titanium exhaust on my '97 GSXR. Made the world of a difference.

If I remember correctly from reading about different header designs, a 4-1 will typically increase power at higher rpm ranges, while a 4-2-1 will increase HP at a lower range. My wife's 94 GT has a 4-1 on it and I can honstly feel an increase in power at around 4500rpm...but the car rarely sees those RPMs (only when I'm driving it wink.gif ), so a 4-2-1 seems to make more sense for the 5SFE...but as its been stated already, those aren't readily available. Time to make friends with a good welder!
Wut about headers for a 3sfe? If I buy headers for a 5sfe wll it also fit a 3sfe? I found a Pacesetter header it looked depenable. Any takes or inputs on this one?

The outlet for the ebay header is 2.25". Will it be good to go with 2.25 or 2.5 piping?

1999 Celica GT Hatchback
^^ For my GT I have a 2.5 and I love it. I would say stick with 2.5 inch exhaust for your GT as well
