Best quality Ebay header? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #62497 26 posts Started by GotToyota
I'm looking on Ebay right now, and there are around 5 sellers that sell a header for our car. From your experiences, which buyers header has the best quality and fitment?

lol
I recommend surewinproducts as well. My only issue was the gasket, I'd recommend using a crush gasket from toyota instead. The install is easy unless your flange bolts are seized, then things get rough
And for those that say you won't pass emissions, I personally think that's a load of crap. Do you guys still pass emissions? There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to.

actualluy, there is a very good reason why people say you may not be able to pass.

when you remove the manifold on your car, your also removing the main cat.
in some cases, the 2nd cat under the car will suffice, other times not.
iirc dustin (batman722) passed after his header installed, but not by much.

what if we just replace the second cat for a good high flow cat?

those of you who have bought from surewinproducts., are you guys on a 5sfe?

Beefyt: installing was easy I did it in my garage, the only problem I had was the bolts on flange were basically rusted on, I took it to my mechanic and he broke um loose for free. And yes I did heat wrap mine too, bought it off ebay as well for like 30 bucks or something. STRONGLY recommend doing it since your heat shield is gone.

GotToyota: I stongly agree w Pressure, you're removing your first and main cat, you MAY be able to pass emissions but it's doubtful, I am lucky enough I live in a state where they don't test, so I'm running catless for now.

njccmd2002: I'm on a 5sfe, that is what that header is designed for, as far as i know it wouldn't fit on any other engine but who knows.. maybe I'm dumb. A high flow cat is just going to restrict even less, correct me if I'm wrong.. I imagine I'll be moving into a state that requires emission testing prolly in the next year or so in that case I will be getting a high flow cat but when it comes time to test I'll prolly just throw the stock manifold on to make sure I pass.
if you want to pass emissions, have a cat added to the system further down or have the main cat replaced with one for something like a chevy 350 or a chevy big block. the cat on the header is not the main cat, its the warm up cat, however both are generally needed to pass emissions.

I think I'll get another cat added further down the piping whenever I get mine.

As far as efficiency goes, did you guys get better gas mileage with this or worse?
another cat may not work, they need certain amounts of chemicals in the exhaust to work and to reach a certain temperature. too far from the engine and it may never reach temperature and with another cat infront it may not get enough stuff to do the reactions.

or it could work, try it and find out.

After looking online, here is a comparison of the two headers.

Camry (factory):

Celica (aftermarket):

They look dead identical, the only difference is that the factory header has a cat and the aftermarket doesn't. I might go with this Camry header that way I will pass emissions.

GOOD!!! kindasad.gif
now iam confused, does our gt 5SFE celicas have two cat?? or just one?, i bought my 96 gt and i believe its only one cat, where the manifold its located, after that cat, i dont see another cat, just some kind like resonator, i dont know if it is a stock resonator, somebody knows about it???
There are two. One located in the exhaust manifold, and one right after that.

Sup Matt, I remember that conversation and I am (or was, but still looking) into that. IIRC Darth suggested a 98 5sfe camry header. Not 100% on that though. ALthough I know there are a few threads laying around dealing with the issue. Just havent gotten any def conclusion. I was thinking of running the header to the stock pre cat...dont know if it would work, still looking for a 98 5s camry one to mess around with.
I also bought my ebay header from the same seller BUT I noticed that inside the ports, it could use a bit of polishing. I haven't installed mine yet, I'm considering hi-temp paint or something, something tells me the stainless steel might get rusty? I also have a Hi-Flow cat lying around too.

Here's a question...a 7th gen short shifter from TRD will work for my 96 GT???

Yeah those generation Camrys go from 97-01, so that 01 manifold would work. What I liked about the factory manifold was that I wouldn't have to get rid of a cat.

we should have a meet at a toyota junkyard...and scrounge for parts like...junkyard wars...anyone got a 4 wheeler??? lolzzz

but seriously...
That would be fun. The only problem is that most junkyards charge more than Ebay.
o can you by camry headers...used off ebay that would have a main cat like ours?

btw...you not selling car...pm me
I have a link on the 1st page near the bottom that has one for around $70. The idea is that you get the same (or slightly smaller) gain, while being able to pass emissions as well as before.

Yeah all of DFW on a scavenger hunt! Whenever I happen to see a header its from the pre cat down. Im with you on emissions though, that and cash is the only reason why I havent gotten an aftermarket ebay header. Need to register my car in TN!
