CAM belt - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #62516 9 posts Started by rasta
Hi guys, appreciate your help in previous posts!

got a question with regards to my celicas belts.

1) what is the difference between the CAM belt and Timing belt? is it the same thing?

2) Also the belt that i have - i do not know when it was changed. I have a full service history from the last 10 years on my 97 Celica ST. But i do not see anywhere it mentioned about the cam belt being changed. I do not want to take chances and screwing up my ride. The belt on inspections looks new - and the thread is deep, but i amn know mechanic so dont know the deal.

Thanks!!

1. they're the same

2. as long as its not cracked or looks dry rotted i'd say you're ok for now

how often should you change it. is it every 60k?
Toyota recommends every 60k. However I had mine replaced at just over 200k and have every reason to believe it was the original belt.
you should replace them no later than 100k. 60k-100k is a premier interval
Hi guys! Who knows the part # of the 3SGE Beams vvti timing belt? thanks for the help, in advance wink.gif
Even if the belt snapped, it wouldn't matter right? I think our cars have non-interference heads right? 96 Celica GT
