Dome ST205 rear diffuser - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #62591 9 posts Started by samir0189
I've come across some information on a abandoned ST205 project - A rear diffuser for the 6gc.

Dome specializes in aerodynamics and has built quite a few race cars. According to Bespoke Ventures Blog, ...

This isn’t just form being secondary to function, this is function being the sole objective of the part. Dome measured a 9mph increase in top speed, a 7.8% improvement in fuel economy and a very useful 200lbs of downforce.

Unfortunately this project never developed beyond a prototype. [As far as I know based on information..]

My question is, has anyone else designed a rear diffuser for the 6gc, seeing the obvious performance benefits that it can have on our cars? And if not, can anyone fabricate one?

that would be a 2 times expensive item

1- the cost of a custom design piece of that magnitud
2- shipping cost to customers

not too many names come to my head when I think on potential buyers for this. not to mention the top speed increase and down force won't be something we can take advantage of on public roads. and imagine going over a speed bump and hearing a cracking sound ? painful.

You do make a good point Culpable, shipping did cross my mind when I saw this. And I also agree it wouldn't be the greatest idea if your slammed or lowered at all, but as for with the stock ride height i don't think it should be a problem...

And although I realize we can't take advantage of the downforce or top speed, would the overall change of the aerodynamics not improve the stability and handling of the vehicle at highway speeds? I don't know a whole lot about aerodynamics.

any time you can get the air under the car to move faster than air over the car you'll get positive results.
When i get to this point i'll have pics, but i will be building a composite flat bottom and rear diffuser for mine.

nice, but if I'm not mistaking you're building yours for track use only right ?

I would really hate to see this cracked in half on a biggie size speed bump. you're right about the aerodynamics effect of air flowing faster but I still think this is not something intented for street driven cars because of the cost, but then again I have a BIG spoiler that won't do much for my auto ST so if this makes someone happy, I'm not the one who will say no.

Nial, is that on your car? If so, do you notice a difference?

No its not mine....couldnt tell you if its effective or not...I did question the owner but the conversation got moved onto other things before I got the answer.
