So I'm looking at getting some gauges, and I like the ones on Procarparts.com but have a question about them. When they glow I see the whole center lights up very brightly, are there any of the same design that don't do this? I love everything about these gauges except the glowing center.

Yeah the black face would be what I think I want. Was going to go with white or silver but the black just keeps a little more simplicity I think.

Chode- were these overlays difficult to install? I read the how-to but its not very clear. Do you have to remove the needles? or how does it "slide" over? Removing the needles sounds like a pain..

yes you have to remove the neddle (i've done it with a knife ) the only problem is the speed neddle.
to adjust mine i had to follow a friend on the highway with the cruise on.
(could a use a gps but didnt have one)
for the rpm neddle i just turn the motor on and put the neddle on the idle.

That's weird, you can't put them back on at idle and at rest and go?

if you put it a rest the result will not be accurate
(i did it this way at first but my rpm were showing about 1000 rpm more than normally0
i think its because when the idle is at rest(when the car is off), the neddle 'sit' on a little pin

I don't think you have to remove your needles, you just have to be really careful and they will slide on over the needles. You can break your clock springs easily if you remove the needles, too. Not worth the chance IMO

There shouldnt be any need to remove the needles. I installed mine about a month ago and never removed needles. Its not really that hard, the hardest part was lining up the check engine light, door open light...etc.

i add to paint my neddle red, plus the gauge were very stiff and i wasnt able to slide them in

I guess if they are unbendable then you might have to take off the needles.

I painted my needles red too, I absolutely love how they came out.

And yeah, if they're super stiff I guess you'd have to, but w/ones like procarparts overlays, you don't have to remove the needles. As for the overlays on the little outter triangles, I wound up taking mine off, it bugged me that they didn't line up perfectly, plus the left one covered my cruise control indicator.
