Subs in the trunk - 6G Celicas Forums

Celica hatchbacks that have full size spare tires and have a big bulge in the middle of the trunk how do you put subs or anything in?

look for some free air subs and get small boxes. I have a coupe so I cant tell ya how much room you have. I'm in the process of getting some fiberglass boxes molded in the wheels of my coupe.
bassworx makes a hatchback box 2 10s or 2 12s it fits nicely between the backseat and the spare tire.
get rid of all of it

I have a coupe and have less room than you do frown.gif I was able to fit two 12" subs in one box back there with full access to the spare tire.

You can do it no problem. depending on how many subs and how big you want to go you can keep your full size spare.

No the problem is that the bulge in the middle leavs barely any space on each corner, and I cant even fit one box between that and the back of the seat.
i was wondering this as well. surely someone must have kept their full size spare in the car and made a box.

plans anyone? tongue.gif
I have see one on the Russian Curren Club sight that I want to copy.

Looking for the site again..... :-(

I can't see where they extend to but I have a few inches from where his speakers are to the back of my Seats
so I'm going to have a look a fitting a sub there (Custom Build a Box)

First, the full size spare was supposed to be a donut. the well is big enough for a full, (provided you dont have 20's or sometehing, lol.) The buldge is because of it being full sized.

As for fitting in subs... Well, i've got a vert (witch has the smallest of all trunk spaces mad.gif ) and you dont really access your spare w/o some re-arranging anymore frown.gif

Here is a pic of my trunk delete:

My box sits on top of the bulge, and i do have to remove the box to get to the spare, it has been a few months since i've had to even look at that or think i about it so i couldnt remember when i left my first post. but as you can clearly see fromt he pic my box site on top of the bulge.

It could just be your box, like it being to big, but that all depends on your set up.
How many subs are you running and is it possible that you could do it with a smaller box?

No i have a single 12" box. I think Im gonna just remove the spare tire and put a piece of wood to cover the hole. thanks for the input

Why not build a box which fits around the hump? There's nothing to say a sub box has to be rectangular. In fact, curves produce more volume from the same area than do straight lines.
My old sub box used to be triangular and it sounded awesome with 1 12" in it.

Use shallow mount subs like Kicker CompVT's. Their 12" sub has a mount depth of only 4 5/16", and can also be flush mounted against the back of a box. They even come with a metal plate so you can sink the sub into the backside of the box and put the metal plate on the backside of the magnet. I use one of these subs in a thin box and it sounds pretty good. I have plans to make a box that is similar in nature, but will house my bigger AVI SLS-300 sub on the right side and then be sunk in housing my amp, capacitor and crossover on the other side.

I have 3 10's in the back of my hatchback. The box sits just on top of the spare and come to the top of teh back seat, its basically flush, I have the amp mounted to teh back of the box, and i still have trunk space. It does look a little goofy but i am planning to cover up the spare with a new floor board that i will make out of wood and cover with carpet once the weather gets nicer.

Unless you're running stock sized wheels there's really no point in even having the spare back there, I say get rid of it.

Unless you've got whatever the hell I've got in my trunk, which doesn't leave a bump in the middle at all. The carpet isn't molded for a bump, either. It just was never there.

Another solution would be to get shallow-depth subs, maybe they'll fit behind the bump. You could also consider getting a bazooka tube, they also take up way less room than standard subs.
I have a hatchback and this was my question for some time, and then I decided to remove my spare and put a probox superbass 15 L7 inside, best sound setup I have made yet from trying and having 4 different sub boxes
