Well i blew something during the turbo install it looking as if I got a hole in a piston or a blown head gasket. So now my cousins goign to break it down so what shoule i do should i keep the turbo setup or what?
99 Toyota Tacoma
well first off
its blown not blowed...sorry just a pet peave..
2nd. yea man i bet its the head gasket like we all talked about last night. get like 2 or 3 of them after its fixed that should fill that gap...also i would definitely keep the turbo set up...its worth it in the end.
no dude i blew a gasket around the piston its blowing compression OUT and yes thats $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
99 Toyota Tacoma
so what was the whole deal with the manifold not sitting flush?
and are you sure its a piston ring that you blew?

the exhaust manifold didnt sit up right and the gasket didnt meet well.....and yes i know its there casue i took the valve cover off and my cousin whos a mechanic checked it and its blowing smoke out around the pistons!

Piston rings aren't really that much money.
First off, not to nag or anything, but before you did a turbo setup...I would've had that checked out. I would've had the whole eengine gone over...but a piston ring isn't too hard...just gotta take apart the block man...little manual labor never heart anyone. See if you can get TopEnd to get you some gapless pistons rings and forged pistons...
Also...while you're already ripping apart you engine...replace anything else you see that might have some wear in it. Good learning experience for you I think...or a good example for anyone here.

Yea I believe the only reason I had problems was casue I had too many friends working on the car and i told them we need to get teh oxygen sensor in and they said no no and i said yes and then they cranked it and it ran lean as hell and i believe that blew one of the gaskets around the piston.....hopefully thats all it was but the only thing im buying is the 2 bar map sensor and i may buy injectors depending on how much everythigns going to cost!!!! but IM not giving up now on this turbo project not after all this~~~~~~~~

well my cousin said a shop would charge around 800-1200 to do but he would do lots cheaper and put the turbo on in the process!

Shop will charge that much cuz they're charging you for their lunch break...just kidding. They are smoking you right there...cuz they know you have no clue what kind of labor is involved. If I were you, I'd go to that shop again and ask them exactly what is involved...and gather information form here. so you know the exact process. Then go to a different shop and tell them exactly what you will need done...the variance in pricing is amazing for someone who doesnt know squat about the job being performed and a person that knows how it's done.
Better yet, gather as much information and do it yourself. Just don't have all your buddies over...I can see it now...
"No, we don't need the pistons rings in for now...let's take them out to make sure that's the problem and start it up. It will work trust me!" lololol

hehe, that's a great method. I've never heard it before.... I have one question: Are you guys running oil cooled, water cooled, or oil and water cooled turbo's?

Well Im thinking my problem came from not having the second 02 sensor one time or running the car with a gutted cat and no exhaust.

the gap was between the manifold and the head, not the head and the block

The only thing i would like to add to help you guys out is i think (im pretty sure) that the 98 and 99 celicas have forged pistons unlike the older models, so if you have a newer car then you really do not need any lower compression forged pistons. You should look into getting the metal head gasket for the 5sfe camry to lower your compression to about 8:1 ....and it will last way longer too! If i were you i would run the water lines to the turbo, they are really easy to tap into and take like 15 minutes to do. You can tap into the rubber lines under the intake manifold with 2 tee's and run your lines to the turbo.( If you follow the metal water lines that run across the front of the engin block from the water pump you will see where i am talking about) And deffinetly do not let any friends talk you into rushing your project. Take your time and do it right!!!! I hope you get it up am running soon my man.....good luck!
If i can help with anything else just ask!
