No - you said 3S-GE - that's non-turbo. 3S-GTE [Note the T for Turbo right in the engine code] has one dual entry Turbo. wink.gif

Why would you say that?

I said that I thought he meant 3S-GE, not 3S-GTE. Therefore, me saying no turbo applied to me erroneously thinking 3S-GE. And then I corrected myself. wink.gif
okay. we were all confused on what each other said; But we're all clear now:

3s-ge performance engine, non turbo
3s-gte high performance single turbo

I am 17 and my first car was a 72 Porsche 914. After 7 months of looking I finally found a 97 gt with 85,000 miles fully loaded for six grand. Just to let you know it is an expensive car to insure as well as the initial cost. It is 750 dollars every six months in my dads name so I can only imagine what it would be for me. Just keep looking and good luck.
My car wasn't that bad to insure, I think around 1300 a year? After good driver's discount and everything else.

Pics of that Porsche? Sick first car.
damn son...i paid 5.3k for mine with 135,000 miles, fully loaded except cruise control...i hate it when i find out there was a better deal but o well
ps-my first car was a 62 ford falcon...yay carburetors with a manual choke...not
Yeah you would think that since it is a Porsche that it is fast but the celica is quite a bit faster. However the Porsche handles like a dream. It is also running carbs right now. I will try and get some pics up soon.
ya mine was a single barrel holley...nothing special like less than 100cfm but it was a factory rebuilt spec. i had to get rid of the falcon...i love old cars but not for dd and id need the car plus at LEAST 15k
I've heard people on this site get up to 450 000km out of there GT's engine and gearbox and even similar with the ST but Its all up to how its been looked after, if its been driven hard it will last a lot less but probably will still be a long time if serviced well.

Id personally stay below the 200 000km mark just because I wouldn't like getting a high km car from scratch, personally Id go with the GT as even they have a rep for not being a real fast car, they aren't slugs but just not fast compared to other cars in the class, they are comfortable to drive and pull well up hills and still pull well with weight in the car and very fun to drive.

As for things that go wrong its just common things that happen on all older cars really, cv joints, oil leaks, water pump, radiator leaks etc etc.

to turn it into a more fun car then its probably best to start with the suspension, upgraded shocks and springs, sway bars front and back, strut bars etc

both engines that come stock aren't good to mod but early on its worth atleast doing intake as the sound is amazing haha, turbo isn't needed to have fun, even a 3sge non turbo still has a fair bit of power 160-200hp depending on which gen.
You’re going to have no problem finding a 6Th gen Celica in the Bay Area, that’s for sure. The NorCal 6gc members seem to be lacking numbers, but all in all, I’ve seen a large amount of 6th gen celicas up here just ready for the picking. I see them driving around all the time, and their owners always want to get rid of them, but no one wants to buy them.

I read that you wanted a Twin-Turbo car, so from what I gathered you’re looking for something Fast. You’re only 15 and have no job yet, so money could be an issue. You might be looking in the wrong place for speed and cost. The Celica isn’t exactly the cheapest car to fix up, And there is very small aftermarket support for it. Ofcourse, practically everything you need to buy and need to know can be found on this site. Even after you begin to modify your Celica, if you don’t spend a lot of time researching and buying the right parts, your Celica is going to give you even more headache.

If you like the 6th gen Celica, then definatly go for it. It’s probably not the best choice in terms of performance and affordability, but it’s a start. There are a few Bay Area members who have been around for years and are always willling to meet up if you ever want to learn more about the 6th generation Celicas and cars in general.
EDIT: was going to comment on a topic brought up on the first page, it has been covered LOLOLOLOLOL

330whp 309ft/lbs @ 21 PSI
We've covered that I made a mistake there...

And there you go in your edit. biggrin.gif
Thanks to everyone who helped me out.
For now I have but one question. (It's likely more are to come).
How much do 3ste's usually go for? I'll do my own research, but I'd like you hear from you guys too.

3ste's? Never head of such a thing. Now there are 3s-fe's and 3s-ge's and 3s-gte's and i see no reason you couldnt turbo a 3s-fe making a 3s-fte....

But you are probably wondering about the Crown jewel's 3s-gte (highest preformance turbocharged engine)

Keep you letters right, one letter can make a lot of difference.

EDIT: wait, on second thought, a 3s-te would be a turbocharged 3s engine, without a head? Right? laugh.gif

Haha, yeah, I did mean the 3s-gte.

^ super deal ^

Here ya go.

For the JDM, GT-four's 3sgte it seems to run 2500-3000 (for mint/perfect condition), although you could pillage an MR2's or one of the younger celica's for one, (minor work to make everything fit) You could get one of those for maybe 1500-2000... less if you have a local shop that's willing to part with one cheaper. You could always turbocharge you 5s-fe too. w/e.

Great. That price doesn't seem bad.

I have another question that I forgot to ask.
You mentioned that twin turbos are more likely to lag than singles.
Why? Is it because of the extra power needed for two turbos?

Also, I once heard a while back ago that twin turbos of course do lag, but that's why there is another to make up for it..? And that when finally both do kick in, the speed increase is drastic.
Sorry that sentence was worded weird. But I think you understand.
Is all this true?

okay...

Lets start at the beginning. The exhaust flows out of your engine, and gets one fan spinning, witch in-turn, spins the fan on the intake side... Now, If the engines exhaust gas isn't flowing fast enough to spin the fan with enough force to suck air on the other side, then you're in boost lag, because your engine is trying to suck in air thru all this piping and inter coolers and turbo's and so on... You engine is suffocating. Now as soon as there is enough exhaust flow to spin that fan, they you're hitting boost. Right? Right. Okay, now if you try to spin 2 fans with HALF as much power (because instead of 4 ports going to one fan, you now have "TWIN" turbo or a "DUAL" setup, witch is 2 ports to one turbo and 2 ports to the other), then theoretically it'll take 4 times as long/much power to get it spinning the speed in witch you're hitting boost. Right? Yeah. Now when it does finally kick in it's also going to build up PSI pressure twice as fast... But you'll be at like 6000RPM before that happens laugh.gif making it pretty much useless. Mind you you'll never be able to accelerate (more than inch-by inch) from a dead stop. Then you need to wonder if this engine can HANDLE that much boost when you finally get it going. Sure, you COULD build up some un-godly amount of pressure and force the fuel in it, but would it be a good IDEA? no. Sure, you COULD run 150PSI thru it, Would it last? Or would it launch a piston rod clear out of the other side? wink.gif

Re-read that HOWSTUFFWORKS.com article, and explore the other options.

EDITED: Remember i'm at work, so i fixed some of my bad spellings and elaborated on some un-explained ideals.
