I am looking to swap out my 7a-fe for a 4a-ge black top, but I'm having trouble finding one with an automatic transmission. Does anyone know of a good importer that might have one? Also if anyone has performed this swap any advice would be much appreciated.

edit:would it be feasible to use my old 7afe trans with a 4age and if so will any 4age work or do I have to get one that had an automatic?

Not sure about where to get one but as far as advice on the swap, use the search plenty of guys have done them.

I don't know why you would want to swap a blacktop and still be auto. Having a manual is half the fun on the 20V motors.


The C52 transmission from the 7A-FE will bolt right up. I think the 5sp that came on the BT was a C52. I know the 6sp that some came with is the same transmission as the 7th Gen Celica (C60).

not trying to start a manual v auto debate because i drive manual and love auto for daily driving, however, the 20V should never be matted to an auto. like putting meat in yoghurt, doesnt work heeheh

what do you guys think would be the best motor to swap in while keeping an automatic trans?

IMO, none keep 7afe.
however i do remember member on here who did 3sgte swap with automatic...
