Rear Strut Bar - 6G Celicas Forums

Ok, here's the thing. I pick up an OEM rear sturt bar today. I know how to install it everything but wut I don't get is wuts the purpose of it? I mean I hear everybody talkin about them, but I mean wut to they do and is there noticably big difference in having one as appossed to a car that doesn't?

well after i popped it one. i noticed a change. not a big one, but how ever it does keep my sub box from moving everywhere wink.gif. plus not all people have them.

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
What a strut bar does is stiffen up the car's frame to keep it from flexing.

It has alot to do with suspension geometry and very boring stuff.

But to to break it down to basic terms, if you have upgraded suspension it helps makes your car handle better.


I have one in my car and its..... well there.... There is nothing else I can really say about it. I can't prove to anyone if it helps with handling or even if it helped at all because it such a minor modification.

What it does do is transmit the road noise into the cabin more. Hope that helps.
Cool, I appreciate the help yall, Another question is this. Besides ebay where can I order front and rear sway bars for a 202 with Mc Phearson strut system?

To be honest the rear strut bar helps out A LOT.. I bought an RCR rear strut bar 3 point custom made by Dustin IIRC and you can totally feel the affects of it.

Nope mine went on quite easily. I only had problems getting the rear bolt off. Other than that, it went on like a champ.

no being a ST is not a problem, have you have any accidents ?

try to flip the bar and install it upside down of how it looks it should go. if this doesn't work

try to lift the rear of the car a little bit, not enough for the suspension to fall off when you lose the nuts, this will give you some flexibility and may go in easily.

Try places like Greenline or Nengun...both good companies and pretty cheap too...which is always a bonus smile.gif

actually it was jeff (defgeph) who made the rear 3 point strut bars. but yea, a strut bar connects the 2 strut towers, which in turn tightens the whole chassis.
and yes, they do work, its not just your imagination.

buying parts before knowing what they do.....thats awesome

your chassis is a system which flexs and twists. the more you can stabilize the system the better your car handles.
Connecting strut towers reduces chassis flex, which results in better handling performance. This is most noticeable and beneficial to a lowered vehicle.

That was dickish. If he's read everyone raving about how much they love them, blah blah blah, and had an opportunity to pick one up, why not buy it? At least he asked what it's supposed to do instead of just installing it arbitrarily, which you know is exactly what a lot of people do with some mods. By buying it and asking about it, it gives the option of keeping it or selling it if it doesn't fit his needs or whatever. wink.gif

research ---> purchase ---> install

arbitrarily buying random stuff < knowing what you are buying

informative consumers > ignorant consumers

you wouldn't go buy a random new car cause someone said it was cool, then figure out the features and how it works later now would you?!
If so the Ford Pinto....you should look into it...VERY cool car!


The point is we want educated users, through learning, who will do the research and figure out exactly what and why they are modifying on their car. Not only does it make sense it yields many POSITIVE results.
a) you save money in the long run, b) you learn more about your car and cars in general, c) you can form a definitive goal and methodically achieve that goal and d) your car functions and performs better.

I personally completely agree with your point. But we're talking about a strut bar, not an entire car, much less anything that explodes on minor impact biggrin.gif I just don't think it's worth chastising him about it. It's not like he's MrGrape or something laugh.gif
Getting the topic back on track:

The first performance-modification I got for my Gen6 was a rear strut bar and I have to say there was a big difference in the way the car handled. I put my strut bar on before I lowered the car as I was pretty lucky to find one in a breakers yard shortly after purchasing my car.
