does the 5S-FE in the camry from i believe 99 to 2001 i think it is, Have many differences? Ive noticed the Exhaust Manifold on some of those models have Tubular Headers as opposed to the Collective Manifold on my Celica's. Ive also noticed that there power ratings are slightly higher as well? and the Valve Cover looks slightly different as well?

heres a question but more for the camry transmission...how is the gearing? is it longer than the celica's? at 80 on the hwy i was at 4000 (everyones going 75 this was just for changing lanes cuz i was following someone home) then down to about 70 im at 3500... talking to gottoyota he said on his car in 5th gear at 60-65 he was at 2500 where as im at 3k
feels like my 5s is straining and i dont like it

Yeah I was always wondering why my gearing was different than his when I remembered that the previous owner put in a Camry transmission. How do I know if it's the E series transmission?

auto trannys are geared much diffrently than a manual.
~4k @ 80mph is normal in a s54 equipped celica.

ya but both of ours were/are manual
also with a 5s turbo application- how does the boost work, i went to a road course yesterday and was thinking that since the 5s redlines at like 6400 and the gearing is so short...when is there time to spool? how have you (pressure) combatted this

i have full boost (~15psi) by 3k rpm.
i make boost anything over 2500 rpm.
no worries there.

haha ya thats handy interesting...
ya my bro has a 95 camry dx 5 speed and my bro's friend has a 93 mr2 with the same engine. And the camry has longer gears to save more gas im assuming. he said that at 80 mph the mr2 rpm's were a litter higher...

Doesn't make any sense since we are both manual. How can you tell if the tranny is an E series?

Oh ok, are there any parts that are swappable that might yield any power between the 2?

anyone? more on the how to tell if its an e series transmission?

no.
if its a 5s equipped camry, it "should" be a s54 tranny, IIRC.

Yeah that seems off my Celica with an Auto goes 80mph at around 3450 - 3500 Rpms. but Manual transmissions are different from what i've seen
Ok a question, will a 95 below camry 5SFE drop into our GT. Would we have to swap all the addons? manifolds, water pump, dizzy, etc, or will the motor come out of the Camry and drop in as is using GT mounts?
Camry trannys have longer gears - more economy styled since family car while the Celica has shorter gearing for the sportier car feel.
haven't looked up part #s yet, but I know the ratios are different from swapping trannys between celica/camry
