I have an iPod speaker dock thingy. I'm not sure what to call it. Anyway, I've had it for about 2 or 3 years now, and the other day I took it outside to my garage with me so I could have some music while I cleaned my car out. When I finished up, I went to shut the speakers off. As soon as I touched the power switch, I shocked the crap out of that thing. As soon as I shocked it, the power went off. Now, the speaker thing still charges my iPod just fine, but the power switch is pretty much useless. The speakers won't turn on at all to play my music which is really depressing. So uh.... That's my question. Did I short out the power switch or what? What the eff did I do to that thing? How can I fix it, or do you guys think it's fried?

Is it an electrical socket that's not used often or something? if you shocked it that bad i'd be worried the ground on the outlet may be bad.
And it thats how its acting is day yeah some part of the circuit is fried. did it smell?

The weather has been dry here lately so I've been getting shocked by everything. I cringe at the thought of closing my car door now lol. It's not the electrical socket, I use it quite frequently for the vacuum to clean out my car and for my iPod speakers. This was definitely a static electricity shock. I had just climbed out of the back seat of my car and hadn't touched anything at all yet. There was no smell, just one quick shock and the light went off and no more music It still charges the iPod just fine though, which leads me to believe that whatever happened only affected the switch. But I don't know anything about this thing, just that I turn the switch on, turn the volume up, and enjoy.

lol, no problem. chances are you threw something out of whack on the C.board. Pull that sucker apart; and look for rather a fuse (if you're lucky) or a relay with black edges on it. Possibly fried a transistor, witch is a small tubelular looking thing with an arrow on it (usualy), W/E you fried, it should have black edges; Or a break in the sauder. you'll just take your handy-dandy saudering iron and remove burt peice, take it to radio shack, and sauder in the new one. Simple as pie.

FYI, you cannot really jack up a switch with a static shock, but incase you have (or ever do), then get it out, find out what kind of switch it is and go get it replaced. Usualy these things require any ole constant-toggle. but just incase its best to check first.

But from now on, ground yourself before touching electronic devices when climing over clothy material.

Guess I don't know my own strength. Alright, I'll take it apart tonight and find the fried black thingy. Lucky for me I can actually solder
