i think i found my next car - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #64291 55 posts Started by azian_advanced
i've decided that my next car would have to be turbo'd, awd, fully loaded with all options, and reliable. so i've been searching for possible candidates for my next car and this one caught my eye.
the legal arrival date is june 2009 and i'm still discussing things over with the importer/seller.

right now, nothing is set in stone but i thought you guys might enjoy these:

WRC TTE replica.. how many of these were made?

I hate you guys tongue.gif...Getting a chance at gt-4's kindasad.gif

I think once we are legally able to import here to the U.S. GT-4's are going to be damn near impossible to find.

Yeah that's not going to be fun having to wait 25 years... frown.gif

They're actually looking to do that here in Canada too now, which is why I jumped all over the chance at getting a GT Four now, because in a year, the law may be different. frown.gif

tyeeimports? did you already reserve that car for yourself? i was looking at that several weeks ago..
if i ever get this car, i plan to fly one-way to pick it up at the port in vancouver, or in calgary (where my import agent is located), just so i can enjoy the drive back while taking the scenic route (yellowhead hwy) home.. that would be the best drive ever..

gerald - how much did you get it for?

price is confirmed at $12,550 cdn which includes the cost of the vehicle, insurance, shipping, customs, taxes, container unloading, delivery charges and import fees for clearance to pick up in vancouver. it's about $4k higher than your average gt4 from cdn importers but all the mods really add up.
i haven't bought the car yet.. the seller and i have just been exchanging e-mails regarding the terms of sale, payment, etc.

I hate you. I wish I could afford one.

i definitely need to sell my car before i can get this one.

i call top bunk tongue.gif

BANNED. for life, you moron.
Hey Gerald, did you get an insurance quote for that car yet? Wonder if there might be any special regulations that you'll have to pass with the MOT other than having to put in DRLs (not sure if Japan has them, if not, just turn ur sidemarkers into your DRLs, I just changed my friend's evo 8's foglights into his drls, gosh sexy car awesome they're legal in Canada now).
But anyway, yeah man you should TOTALLY get that car! I will personally no doubt fly to Winnipeg to meet you in person and get a ride in the car; ofcourse and to visit family. rolleyes.gif
i don't think it requires DRLs because that is the reason for it needing to be 15 years old. it doesn't need DOT'd lights, windshield, DRLs and some other stuff that i can't recall to meet federal compliance. a friend of mine bought a 93 jdm wrx last summer but i don't recall him having DRLs. but yeah, feel free to come and visit. there's nothing here just fyi, it's a cold and boring city lol

on a side note for you guys in the US and just going off topic for a bit, japanese cars are being imported here more and more. I believe vancouver alone receives about 120+ cars per month so it's not surprising to see someone driving a rhd here! most are being purchased by a younger target market (18-28 yrs old) because of the high performance to price ratio. But at the same time I see more imported cars like r32 skylines, mr2s, 3000gts, and 300zxs ending up at the salvage auctions because some 'kids' (or should i say: immature and inexperienced drivers) street race or think they're Takumi and end up drifing into a ditch or hitting a tree. maybe it's the fact that these cars (being turbo'd, RWD and especially RHD) require more driving experience and discipline than your average joe driver. this is the reason why insurance companies or federal government are trying to implement a new law of either extending the 15 yr rule to 25 or completely dropping the whole 15 year rule all together.
/offtopic.

Let us know when/if you get an insurance quote on the car.
I'm actually interested in seeing whether it being ridiculous due to the fact it is RHD, and other misc. reasons.
here in manitoba, there is only one insurance company. from what i can tell it won't be significantly higher than what i'm paying for mine right now. the only time insurance cost rises is based on your driving records. of course cars, trucks, vans differ in insurance costs but the difference between a gt-s and a imported gt-four is very slim. our insurance company here isn't as anal as perhaps other insurance companies, maybe it's because there is no competition here? not sure how it works for jdm cars in ontario.. but insuring the car should be no problem here.

I wonder how hard it would be to sneak one across the border...if people take these apart and import them as "kit cars" from Japan, couldn't you technically do the same going from Canada to America? But then you'd have to deal with driving an illegal car...kindasad.gif
