Got my GT4 Clear Signal Lenses! WOOO! - 6G Celicas Forums

But now I ask what is the best method for removing my old lenses? Can I put them on a cookie sheet? Or would that melt the original housing? I guess what I am asking is what is best used to place objects of your car (Turn Signals. Projectors, etc..) to be sat upon in the oven?

-preheat oven to 250
-bake on a cookie sheet for about 10mins (one lens/housing at a time)
-then carefully pry the old lens off

*if the lens doen't wanna come off, stick it back in the oven

*kinda play around with the bake times
I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

Oh ok. The sheet won't melt the housing?

it didnt when i did my custom job.

you can try baking at a lower temp and shorter time if your not sure, but with more trys

***try baking @ 200 for 5 mins

and re-bake if the lens is still hard to come off

K. I gotta wait til Monday though. Now I just need to know where I can find a Chrome can of spray paint for the inside of the housing so the light reflects better. Just a suggestion that Richard (Wolfie308) made that sounds good to me.

I wouldn't use the oven, it's easy to warp the platic housings. Try boiling them first. It will soften the glue holding the lenses in and not damage the housings.

I was wary about using the oven for fear that it would destroy the housings, but in the end went with setting the oven on its lowest setting and trying for a few minutes at a time until the glue became plyable. Id recccomend some type of glove when handleing the units when they come out of the oven wink.gif

Thanks Batman! I am asking for both turn signals and projectors...... I am rather scared to use that oven. I do not have a pot big enough for the projectors, although I would be less scared to do that with projectors than the turn signals... I might just end up boiling them like you said. I dunno yet. I got until Monday to think it through.

I have to say my preferred method is the oven, which I use for much more complicated dismantling than these.



Place the units on an oven glove not the shelf direct and 5-10 mins at 100 deg C should be fine. Take the time to poke the mastic back into the recess when you've got the ambers out.

Regards the 'silver' spray, look for some thing 'chrome' or 'bright metallic' which has more of a mirror finish if well sprayed.

With the GT4 turns, I've found it nicely smooths the look if you remove the uneccessary partition inside(not possible on the ST202 units). Pic below shows what I mean....



and when fitted on your car they should like this(until you respray it)......

Yeah Richard makes bad ass lenses! Look at the numbers and Toyota logo on those bad boys! Tell me the man didn't do such a great job on making those look OEM? I can't wait to put them on, and yes, there will be pics. I just gotta go and pick up some paint and such. I bought these LED lights that I guess came from Japan. I made the mistake of getting some other LED lights that didn't fit in the GT4 turn signal housing. But PolyLED on EBAy is who I bought these from. Didn't think I would dish out $29.99, but there are nothing like them online. They were made to fit.

wow! thats a crap load of work! Got a question... where did you get the turnsignals from?? I just got the c-one front bumper and none of the turn signals fit! Do I have to get the GT-4 Signals??? I'm so confused about this!!

Front Indicator Lense Replacement

Just removed my lenses, this is what I did:

1. Got large saucepan filled with water.
2. Placed on stove and pre-heated water until boiling.

3. Placed the indicator unit into boiling water sideways first so that there was boiling water inside the indicator unit and then up-ended it.

4. Left in the boiling water for about 5-7minutes (one took 5mins, the other took 7mins).
5. Carefully removed indicator unit (it's hot) and prised indicator lense off using a flat blade screwdriver.


Next tasks...
I have just bought some Chrome paint and propose to paint the interior of the light unit. This should produce an excellent reflective backing.
Got some black paint in the garage so I'm going to accent the clear lenses.

Then it's a case of fitting the clear lenses - I propose to do this by placing the indicator unit under the grill face-up so that the black putty/glue is pliable before slipping the new lense into place.

I really wouldn't recommend using the grill - too much risk of damaging the backing for my liking. The oven isn't that scary, but if you're worried, I'd use a hairdryer for this stage. Do take the time to poke down the mastic into the recess - you can use a small flat blade screwdriver dampened in water to stop it sticking. No further adhesive should be necessary.

For the ultimate effect, removing the unecessary partition before spraying completes the look. Best done with Dremel but can be done with care and a very sharp craft knife/scalpel.

Look forward to seeing the fitted result.

So i was ;ooking around for those clear markers for the st202 and i went to the web site and there was no where to order them and i used a convter to see how much and 97.00 us dollors is a little much for just the cover. But wuold really like to get them lol. So what im asking is how would i go about getting a set of those?

Seems a bit much, but to me, is all worth it. Because Wolfie (Richard) makes them with care. They look so factory. You can make your own, but they will look like you made your own. When Richard makes them, they look like they were OEM. So it all depends on how well you want it to look.

The only problem for me right now is I do not want to install a relay or anything, but I want something bright and super white with a blueish hue to it for lighting for turn signals. Those polyleds are ok for not turn signals. Even if I make them signal correctly, they do not correctly signal. There is not enough variation in being on to being used for a turn signal to use for the day time driving, and white bulbs do a good job, but not bright enough for that blueish hue.

Already did that after taking the lense out and while the mastic was still hot and pliable.

UPDATE...
Done the accenting on the lenses:



Removed the partition and sprayed the units:



Next I'll remove the masking tape which was protecting the mastic, stick in the oven to heat up the mastic and then fit lenses.
