Topic #64679 7 posts Started by jesterwr217
This started all of a sudden yesterday ive never had this problem before
when im driving everything is like normal until i get to 4th gear
when i shift into 4th and push the throttle about 50% or more the shifter will pop out of gear and back into neutral
the clutch is new it only has about 10,000 miles on it
any help is greatly appreciated

Theres a pin and some sort of a plastic ring on your shifter, it may be worn. Im fixen to do mine, it has been doing the same thing. My dad (master toyota tech) said more than likely thats what it is.

It's the part that holds your shifter cables onto the tranny. If you remove your airbox and make some room you should see it. Its just a rubber piece with a snap ring on it holding it down. Follow your shifter cable lines and you should see it when it connects to your transmission.
ok thball joint at the bottom of the shifter is tight and secure and where the cable connect to the tranny one has a lil play in it but not enough for me to think it would pop outa gear
my dad seems to think the grear is simply worn out and i need the tranny rebuilt or replaced
does anyone else have any suggestions

the shifter would likely do it in all gears, as would the cables. the gears have detents in the teeth that hold it in gear while youre driving, they wear out and slip out of gear when you put too much force on them. you need a transmission.
