5s-fe top end power - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #64762 7 posts Started by blu94gt
So I have a question about my 99 GT. I've had it about half a year now, gotten it all tuned up etc, and it just seems like it doesn't have much pull above 5k RPMs. 3-5k it pulls like crazy, and from the other 3 Celicas I've had I know the 5sfe is no powerhouse, and has more power in the midrange, but it seems like I'm really lacking here. No mechanical problems, up to date on maintenance, oil changes, etc.

Is there also a difference between the OBD I and OBD II cars in performance?

no performance difference.

Probably just imagining it or it has more km's on the clock and has lost a bit of power.

no dice....its the same with mine we make all our power down low and mid range, 5s have an econo head on them or w/e i read it on here, doesnt allow us to breath enough at high rpm so we lack it, i rarely rev over 5g's, im just wasting gas after 5 i figure, any one have a chart they can post up?

i hate snow, missing my celica
I also notice the lack of power above 5k. Is this due to the egr or the emissions systems? or is it the cam?
ya this engine sucks
this is probably the best you can do with a NA 5sfe with stock cams
it has headers, CAI with K&N filter, 2.5" exhaust, advanced timing, professional tune...
*not mine*
after 5500 rpm you are wasting gas kindasad.gif
The valve angle seems to be the problem, the valves are too "flat" against the piston versus high flowing pentroof head found in higher performance engine (like the GE heads)... DEAD END for torque at high RPM frown.gif
