What Defines a Fast Car? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #6490 39 posts Started by 5sfeTurbo
Could it be certain point in which Horsepower is achieved?
Or a certain 1/4 mile time?
How about destroying a certain % of cars on the road?
A personal goal?

When you think of your car being fast what defines that?

I don't think there is such a thing as a fast car... just a faster car.... because whats fast to one person could be slow to another person. all car move fast well all modern cars move fast it's just some cars move faster then other.... just my 2cent..

ok from my point of view and from what mac says

there is only one fast car.

mclaren f1

fastest production car in the world

top speed, power to weight, 1/4, destroys all cars, etc.
Its a question that, when you think is that fast?, you brain says either.."yes" or "no"
So I throw out some Hp #'s 100whp, 178whp, 298whp----900whp.
In between those numbers or be it 1/4 time your brain will be "thats fast" or "whheew thats nothing"

No one can say there is no definition becuase at the moment you think, wow thats guy has a fast car, that then will define a personal view on what you think is quick.
To me, a car isn't fast until it causes your balls to become lodged in the back of your throat.

fast is when, ohh i dunno, 85% of the other cars on the road cant keep up with you...

Car #3: 98 Accord LX- purchased 5/06, totaled 8/06Car #2: 95 Celica GT- purchased 8/03, current daily driverCar #1: 01 Focus ZX3- purchased 5/01, sold 8/03
Going fast, and Being fast are 2 different things. You can GO fast in just about anything, but being fast is a state that even if your not moving, your adrenaline is still pumping.

I don't think the question required a philosophical answer. I think fast is measured by 1/4 mile time. Say somewhere in the 14's is when you start getting fast.
Personally I look at how quick a car can be fast. *accelerate*
My car can do 120ish and a turbo'd ST can do 120ish......but he can get there A LOT faster then I can. I'd say when I can feel myself being pressed into the seat under heavy acceleration, that car is fast to me. Now my friend that is a girl's 91 Toyota Pickup 3.0L 5-speed.....can be defined as slow. When you press the gas in first gear and you have to wait for it to get going.....that's slow! But she says she doesn't need or want anything else so it's fine for her. So I guess basiclly what I'm getting at is that it's up to each individual person to decide what is fast or not on the street. Go to the drag strip and there a computer's that do it for you.

this is how i define fast. I think fast is if the car can beat or keep up with a car that it was bulit to keep up with. if i set out to beat a stock dsm turbo and i get to the point where i can beat it then i think my car is fast. but if i set out to beat a stock supra and i cant then i think it isnt fast YET. that my point of veiw

I think as far as 1/4 mile times are concerned during the muscle car era 15 seconds was considered fast. Since most cars can do 100 mph top speed, the only difference between cars would be their acceleration. How fast can you go 0-40? 0-60? 0-100? That's what makes a car fast. I think 0-60 under 7 seconds is fast. Why? Because it FEELS fast when you're in a car that can do do that. Actually, I think my 4-cylinder Altima feels really fast. My celica however feels slow after hitting 40 mph, but it is pretty quick to 40.
I believe the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari dethroned the McLaren F1.

Matt and Nate, you guys are thinking all wrong. Those cars may be fast, but neither one of them are 'original'. Sure, they put out the numbers stock. But one of those is on almost everyone's wishlist to have (except mine -- if I won one, I'd sell it). It just seems stupid to rock a McClaren unless you are a stuck-up snobb that thinks he doesn't have to do anything to his car to make it fast. Give me the cash that it takes to buy a McClaren and I could fix up probably 3-5 cars that would kill it. 4 Cars with the money to buy 1? Give me the 4! I just think a major part of being respectively fast is having something to do with the work involved in getting it there.

Fast? I think fast is when you can destroy most any cars at a random point in time. Fast is 13-14 seconds and under.

In the end, I think, it all depends on the situation and car. Like, you could see a picture of a stock Civic hatch and think, "Slow!". But you could also see a hooked-up RX-7 Twin Turbo and think, "Holy Jeebus!". Its all in the situation.

i dont think many cars could kill a mclaren even if they are fixed up...(ya know with a BMW v12 produced to be extremly light, and have the most HP #'s it could put out and all) but a milion in cash could get you some nice cars ;-)

I believe the most HP ive seen from a street legal car was like a 1100hp supra. Sorry but a Mclaren can suck it, not saying a supra would win but cmon even if we won these cars we couldnt afford to take care of them. Oil change, brakes, other wearable items on cars. Gimmie a:
Skyline GTR V-specII R34
GT4
RX-7
Supra TT
Ford Explorer (need to buy groceries)

I know this but who the hell would want one "be all" car as opposed to 5 "oh my god thats sweet" rides.
When did this become a question of the fastest car? The McLaren was built for speed, thats it. The drivers seat is in the center of the car, when your one goal is to make ur car the fastest, then thats whats going to happen. If you have $1,000,000 to spend on an F1, go for it but what a waste of money.

When someone says, thats a fast car? what does that mean. It has fast acceleration & high top speed. Thats it.

The question is basic...when you think of a fast car what defines that, numerous amount of answers.

>wink.gif> wow...thast quick. See I like post were people have different opinions and facts that never ends >wink.gif>
True the 1/4 mile time if a N/A honda can reach 9.98 theres infinite possibilties.

fast is all in the driver. fast is the point you reach when you say "i better slow the F*** down" if you dont reach that point. you arent going fast enough.

Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them allNo but I don't buy itLike anything you do, as anyone you areCause I'm...Ten Speed, of God's Blood & Burial
1/4 mile times are only one element of speed, one that IMO, is too focused on.

I think that fast is defined as top speed whereas quickness is acceleration. The McLaren F1 is the fastest production street car (240mph). The Enzo isn't faster but quicker 1/4 in 11.1.
All I have to say is you don't know what a fast car is... you're just plain ol stupid!

If a Saleen Mustang owner came up to you and asked if your car is fast, you should say "No, it's not as fast as yours".

If a Geo Metro owner came up to you and asked if your car is fast, you should say, "It might be faster than yours".

If a guy in a 18-speed huffy came up to you and asked if you car is fast, you should say, "Yeah! Wanna race?"

But seriously... you all know what fast is... I don't know why there's so many (different) responses to this easy-to-answer question... it's common sense what fast is...

Now if this question were asked "in relation to":

X car
Y driver

or

X car and Y driver with Z mods

then yes, I can see how there would be so many different responses... but this is a really general question.
Who cares either way. As long as you walk away from your car with a smile on your face, it's served it's purpose.
