Ok ive got a 17x8 rims sitting here, and not sure on tyres

1. 215/40/17
2. 225/40/17
3. 225/45/17

Which one is the best the run on ?
Guy at tyre shop said 215/40/17 would be concaved in, and is best for 7 or 7.5 width.

My GT-Four is on 235/40 R17 on 17x8" Rims - Goodyear Eagle F1s

I know nothing about your model, but i personally would steer clear of 225/45.

I think there are websites that tell you perfect tyre sizes, but I can't tell you what they are - actually, the more i type the less help I think I am confused.gif

I am shutting up now
215/40 is not enough tire (doesn't fill wheel well, rougher ride, not as much rim protection)
225/40 is a very rare size (tirerack doesn't have a single tire in this size)

what's wrong with 215/45?
most people will tell you 225/45 are best. and lots of tires to choose from in this size.
these are 225/45 on 17x8 so you have an idea:

I'd go with the 225/45R17's. You wouldn't want to put anything narrower than a 225 on a 8in wide wheel. If you decide to go with a 225/40R17, nitto makes the nt555 in that size; they are about the only one's making that particular size.
225/45 FTW

Got them today and running on them now, first feeling when i got in the car was that i actually felt the car was higher. And since my rims are 9.4kg (yes i know) braking too is a tad less responsive

yes they will be higher...from my experience tires to get for 7" wide=215, 7.5"=225. I have 225/40's and they are awesome, feels just like my stockies. They do have a bit more meat since they are Nitto ZRs though.

I know from experience that you can fit a 245/40 on a 17X7 wheel...that's what i run in the back, there is plenty of clearance back there and its gets a lot of tire to the road. I went with Riken Raptors and they grip like there is no tomorrow

My Nitto ZR are probably the best tires I've ever tried, have done away with Yokohama ZR (which I like too), Marshall ZR, Marshall (reg), Nexen, Nankang.

question whats the maximum width i can fit on 8" wide rims?

A 255, or approximately a tire that is 10" wide.
