hey wanted to post this up quick just in case (mods delete if you wish just wanted to get an FYI out)

Thanks for the heads-up. I have a thread in the FS section too, so I'll be watching for something like this. Definitely looks like a scam to me. And even if it's not (which since you found it 3 other places, it is) it wouldn't be smart to give in to their requests. I sell by Paypal only, or if someone wants to mail me a check, that's fine too, but I wouldn't do anything for that person (if it was a real person.) Thanks for the heads up though!

Paypal isn't foolproof. People steal paypal accounts and then use them to buy stuff from you. Then a day or so later when the real owner realizes his account has been compromised, files a charge back. What really sucks is that, from what I know, you can file a paypal charge back up to 45 days after a payment is made.

a little off topic, but also pretty interesting / debasting

when doing transactions outside eBay and using paypal as a method of payment, paypal only is concerned about the " item " begin shipped, if said item is not what you paid for, they can't do much about it, if the " item " is defective, or fake they can't do anything about it as long as there is proof showing the said " item" was delivered to you, so in short, you could be shipped an empty box and they can't do anything about it.

X2^^ Paypal also works against you as a seller if you have a dishonest buyer. You can sell an item to a buyer and get paid through paypal, then the buyer can say he didnt get the item (this can happen within two weeks) Then he can contact paypal and they will give them a refund without even contacting you the seller.

How to protect yourself from this... is easy, you get a delivery confirmation on your item. You can also do a signature confirmation as well its just more expensive, and both cover you either way with paypal.
