wiring my voltage guage - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #65332 13 posts Started by Nyczroflz
hey guys i was just wondering on how to wire up my voltage guage... i removed the A pillar n noticed that were wires behind it, however they kinda have the color code of the radio wires, all i need is a constant voltage output and switch output. The wires are also really short so the only place i can wire them into is the radio wire looking thing. I was wondering how u guys did it it. Thanks

wire constant +12V to any large white wire goin to your fuse box, and to get switched use the grey wire going to your radio. ground: just use any screw.

you can extend the wires w/ "hook up wire" or speaker wire

How many wires do you have? 1 wire for ground, 1 wire to hook up to your headlight switch and I assume u have 1 left to hook up to your power supply and feed it the signal right? So find the pwr supply of your radio when u turn the key on and hook it up to it. u can usually get rid of the headlight switch and leave it unhooked.
I say wire it straight to the battery for better signal and use a fuse, cause if it short circuits it will take out your radio or what ever you have it hooked up to.
thx for the replies guys... one question.. how do u wire in the fuse for it?

to fuse anything on your car, take the + wire and connect it to 1 side of the fuse, than take the othe side of the fuse an connect it to the + wire from the voltage gauge, and you should be good to go
PS; be sure to choose the right fuse, you definetly dont want a fuse with too much amperage.

how do i find out with fuse to use?

Check the package that the voltage meter came with. It should say how much amps it uses. (example: 12 volts, 10amps) So you would use a 10amp fuse. Walmart has fuse kits. Comes with fuse holder and fuse for like $5.
A high power cd player uses between 10 to 15 amps so for the voltage meter a 5 or 10 amp fuse should be perfect.

I think a red one with a 10 on it would be fine, but check the gauge and its manuals or anything that came with it to be 100% sure you are using an adequate for it, or if you use a fuse with a 10 on it and it blows, check your connections, if everything is good but the fuse, try a one with a 15 on it, if same happends use a 20 and if it blows too there might be something broken inside the gauge.

PS: when you test the voltimeter gauge if it works fine, try accelerating your car while in neutral and make sure headlights are off, what that does is that it generates more electricity and you would be testing your gauge at the most power you can possibly supply for it, now if the fuse doesnt burns than you know you have the right one.

PS PS:DONT use the fuse that has a 20 on right away without testing the other lower numbers, because the shortcircuit could bypass the fuse if the fuse has more amperage than needed, therefore, "its better to prevent than to regret"

PS PS PS; LOL THIS PS THING IS KIND OF CATCHY LOL laugh.gif

ANYWAY DUDE HOPE i HELPED YOU TODAY biggrin.gif ANYMORE QUESTIONS? ill be glad to help(within 30 minutes)im getting sleepy.

What is with this poor fusing advice?? You fuse the WIRE not the device. This is to keep the wire from heating up and possibly STARTING A FIRE if a short occurs. And you never add a higher amperage fuse.

Please read

Sorry if I'm coming off as an @$$ but fuses are safety devices and only work when installed properly.
guys i cant find a switch wire to connect to... do u no wut color it should be? i also cant seem to find the grey one that connects to the radio.
