BRAKES! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #65363 10 posts Started by j0ch0a94ST
Hey guys just looking for some honest opinions. I'll be doing my brakes soon and wanted to know if anyone had a preference over OEM pads? I've been looking at hawk hps pads as an alternative and wanted to see if anyone had any feedback. I will be taking the celi to some track events relatively soon, I figured that needed to be stated. So whats better OEM or Hawk HPS pads.....any other suggestions will definitely be taken into consideration. Thanks

I was actually going to recommend Hawk brake pads, but it looks like you already know!

X2
OEM all the way.

I've tried a few different kinds of brake pads and from what I've seen aftermarket pads made of composite or semi-metallic material make noise and ceramic pads are too hard of a compound and will warp rotors or cause grooving easier. OEM pads with always be quiet and won't cause any damage to the rotors.

Not that I think you're going to take my advise because everyone seems to want to "upgrade" and get aftermarket crap, I'm just telling you my own experience and what I've heard from other people who've tried all kinds of things.

if it was designed with OEM chances are it will perform best. granted new technology leads to new discoveries but i'd stick with OE
when u guys say oem do you guys mean genuine toyota parts or oe replacements?

:lmao: your 7afe will perform better than a 7afte?!
your OEM springs and struts will perform better than a full set of coilovers?
thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

HAWK HPS are a GREAT pad and won't cause any damages.

I have them on my car and on my gfs car. we both have rather aggressive driving styles me so very much more.
no noise and dusting isn't really a problem.

OEM couldn't keep up if it wished it could
All I gota say is don't get EBC OE pads, these are cheapest pads EBC makes. My fronts are really loud and there is ALOT of dust. My rims are gunmetal and after 1 week they look bronze on the lip because of the dust...
I just looked at it and the Hawk pads order online are just about as expensive as some other brands found at some Auto Parts store.
You can either wait and order them online or you could just go to the auto parts store and buy some that are at least Cremaic type. These are the best and will not leave a lot of black dust on your rims if you have alloy rims.
i have duralast gold and they bite well. have not had an "aggression streak" to test when and how bad they fade, though

if you want to upgrade, get stock 2000+ GTS brakes (the whole disc, bracket, rotor, AND pads) newer, bigger, better stopping
