ok so im getting my engine rebuilt and since im getting it rebuilt i wanted to make it better than stock. i will be turboi charging it. im looking for advice and parts that will be needed. its a 96 st
Just look up the parts list from Burien's turbo kit made specifically for the 5sfe engine. I think it is listed on the parts database for this forum. One thing for sure is you will need to get some sort of piggback system for your ecu and also fuel managamentn (bigger injectors and probably an adj. a/f regulator). You will need to tune your engine once it is turbo-ed, usually on a dyno. A bigger exhaust setup is nice and from what I understand, if you keep the 5sfe engine, you can only achieve 5-7 psi. Oh yeah, need an intercooler too.
if you want to turbo it, i would use all toyota parts. New Toyota: bearings, rings, gaskets and seals, water/oil pumps. The stock head gasket is metal so you're good there. I'd make SURE they mill your block and shave the head to get a good head gasket seal. But aside from that your stock CR is 9.5:1 so unless you're planning on 18+ PSI boost, you can stay w/ stock pistons.

Now the only upgrade that may be worth looking into internal wise is rods. Stock 7a rods are relatively weak(rod bolts mainly) so if you have the extra cash i'd get them, along w/ ARP bolts.

I think he wanted to know mainly internal engine upgrades. and he has a 7AFE.
BOTH engines are able to take 13 psi daily. look at pressure2, i think he's running over 14 psi on a STOCK 5sfe.

yea im looking to get the engine rebuilt and i want to get the part ahead of time. like i said i have a 97 st. i know a litte bit but im looking to get the engine built better than stock and i want advice on what i should do as far as the pistons and rods
oh ok, I figured it was a 5sfe, sorry about that. In that case, if internals are up for advice, maybe a nice set of forged inverted dome tops (lower comp. of course), I think JE or ROSS. I think even CP has some relatively inexpensive.

I didn't think the stock internals for a 5s could handle more then 7 psi without internal upgrading.

Pressure 2 has proven it can take more, its all in the tuning.
