Replacing Air Bags - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #65623 6 posts Started by tonytutino
I think its best that i replace my airbags to help sell my car...
i found a set in a junk yard for a decent price but i'm wondering about the installation. (ECU, sensors, etc.)
has anyone replaced their airbags and had them fully functional? i'd like to know how hard it really is to do yourself.
thanks guys -Tony

haha, i'll answer your post now. replacing the airbags isn't "hard". it's just like anything else it takes time. i actually took mine out. it's a good idea to disconnect the battery.

but its more complicated than just 'taking them out' or putting them back in for that matter. there are a few things that need to be wired. i just don't know how to do that exactly.

I have a whole steering column waiting to be installed (thought I have no interest in installing it...)... previous owner said it was the way to go, I haven't looked into it at all.

But if you might be interested in the column (with airbag intact of course) I'd certainly give you a deal - I'm more interested in throwing an aftermarket wheel in there.
I have read somewhere that if you have changed or altered the SRS systems you have to disclose it in the sale if it was not done professionally. If the other person gets in a wreck and they dont deploy it could mean trouble.

But im not sure... I would rather sell with no airbags, or put the airbags in the backseat and have the new owner istall it.

good luck

yah, sell the parts w/ the car. or have them sign a waiver and get it noterized and sign with a lawyer present. no joke. you could get the life sued out of you if it don't work right
