supra - 6G Celicas Forums

So I've been playing with the idea of going turbo with my 5sfe, or swapping for a 3sgte. I found a totaled all-trac which would have been perfect for either one, but after many failed attempts at trying to contact the man selling it I decided to give up on that I found a supra turbo, I was just looking for some opinions on whether or not I should get a supra turbo or just turbo my celi.
what year Poopra?

Would need more info on the Supra - but if it is a Mk IV - DO IT! I drove a fully stock except the exhaust '96 Supra and it ran rings around my GT-Four. The Supra is a very quick car.

Having said that, they aren't very practical - no trunk space at all and virtually no rear seats. Thirsty too. I'd still do it.
in my opinion any generation supra is better than a 5s celica... unless u do the 3s, and do it the right way tongue.gif

Unless its the MK3. Those are pieces of junk, and I have a funny feeling thats the supra he's talking about here. You dont just go from looking for a budget car to blowing 30k on an mk4.

$30k for a decent, well driven one.

$60k for low mileage, one owner, perfect condition MK4

MK3s are... well... ugly and unreliable in my opinion. You'd be better off going for an RX7 or RSX (which is still out of that price range).

Live your life for yourself. Don't hold back for anything or anyone.
as long as you take care of the headgasket issue and torque everything down to spec on the 7M, it'll be pretty reliable with minor mods.

One of my Buddy owns a Mk3 and he did the 1JZ swap on it. For a 2.5 liter it pushes out 450 whp and thats with an upgraded turbo, injectors and stock tranny. Those are great cars but the 7M is just not really made for racing.
If you're looking at a MK3 then scrap the idea and get a Lexus SC300 instead with a bunch of miles for dirt cheap. Has a 2jz, Supra suspension parts are compatible, and you could very easily swap for a turbo 2jz or turbo the motor yourself. It doesn't have the "oh holy crap it's a Supra" status but you'll have a damn nice car, and if you put some work into it will be a sweet sleeper.

Exactly! SC300! That is what I am considering right now for next car, next project while I save up and order front & rear clip for this car and begin the swap so I still have something to drive. You can get them cheap as hell too!

You can get low end mkIV's for a decent price, around $15,000, if you are willing to drive to get them. And they are worth the drive. It will be so much more rewarding to buy a car and fix it up yourself than it will be to buy a very expensive very nice car.

Yeah it was the mk3, but I checked it out and the engines a mess, guy won't tell me what's wrong. I suggested maybe it was the head gasket he just shrugged his shoulders and said maybe. He also said he'd throw in another 7mge, didn't really convince me. I guess I'll keep looking for a 3sgte to swap in, just need to come by an all-trac. Hey now that importing the gt4 to Canada is legal, how much do you guys think it would run to get one of these?

actually its the spec thats the problem. torque it more than spec and the head gasket holds. read up of supraforums.com

i have a MKIV 97 TT and i love it. changed over to a single turbo and gained 100 HP at the same boost level. im now making 500 on pump and 600 on race gas.

actually if u torque it higher you run the risk of stripping out the head and your still gonna blow the gaket sooner or later.....read up on supramania.com wink.gif

That's what I somewhat said. lol I should've mentioned non-stock specs. Stock, IIRC, was like 55lb/ft according to someone on SM. I think ideal is like 85lb/ft for the headbolts/studs according to the little paper that's included with ARP's headbolts/studs.

I went with a 1JZ swap on mine and ended up using ARP hardware anyways for the piece of mind since I had the head cleaned and the valve stem seals replaced.
