7 afe turbo'd - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #65917 19 posts Started by jonah
im having the biggest headache of finding a turbo manifold for my 7afe(besides buying new)

so i have figured out what im going to do
im going to do a rear mount turbo by my rear bumper
im thinking a small 14b size turbo
hopefully this turbo will help with the big amount of lag im going to have with exhaust and then boost
im probably going to have to go with a turbo with double fin propelers to make up for boost

does anybody know if this has ever been done?
i know its a waste of performance on my part due to a more performance set up would be a front turbo
im not worried about how fast i can go. i like to be different. thats why i have gold wheels lol
i think it would be the only rear mount celica in my area or maybe in the world(world is doubtful lol)
but whos knows

any tips on what turbo to use?
laugh.gif not laughing at you. just think it would be really interesting to see. and more expensive i think.

but good luck!!!

what makes you think of doing rear mount setup?
yea i have seen that sts site before
i like the header i have on my car now and i would hate to change it over to a nasty log manifold
i need to call around and get prices on my exhaust and intercooler piping
well for 1900 i can get the turbo, oil pump, waste gate and some b/s misc stuff for the stage 1 universal
to me thats a little much for just those couple things lol
ill probably just go with the stage 3 kit that includes everything i need to do it minus the ecu upgrades
yeah thats what i would do too. more bang for the buck
i talked to sts again. they told me stage 3 is the best way to go. but what conserns me is they said they will match the turbo to my car. if im going to pay 3 grand for a turbo set up im going to want the bigger and better turbo. if the turbo is to much for my setup then i can always turn around and sell the turbo and buy another and should have a little cash left over. im just confused on what turbo set up i want. front and rear. i can get a guy to make me a manifold out of a d series honda turbo manifold. this way would be cheaper. if i make my own set up for rear mount then ill have to find a small pump for my oil return line. to me the oil should flow back to the motor because you have pressure going into the high pressure oil line. the oil has to go somewhere. i have heard return lines are gravity fed. i dont know a whole lot about turbos. with whatever set up i go with. do i need to get a map sensor?
if so can someone explain to me what this is? i am a mechanic but i deal with buses at the ohio state university college.
thanks for any help i can get lol
hey man.. good luck on everything! I'm looking forward to seeing this come together. I can't answer your questions, but I can say Good Luck on it!

EDIT: Happy building! =D

THANKS HOPEFULLY I CAN GET IT PUT TOGETHER REAL SOON
BUT AFTER ITS ALL DONE IM GOING TO GET ANOTHER 7AFE MOTOR AND BUILD IT TO HANDLE A LITTLE MORE BOOST
i have a 7A for part out or for sale as a whole...your not to far from me either...it also comes with a 5 speed trans...let me know if your interested...would be the perfect motor to build...i was actually going to build it myself but im to caught up in my swap at this point and dont have the time or money

This is a mistake and you will regret doing it. Not saying that to be rude, just being realistic.
Do it right the first time, or don't do it at all.

well i drive 100 miles a day to work and back
i have my celica(good mpg) and my 01 silverado v8(horrible gas mileage)
so the less my celica is down the better
i dont care about tearing it apart for a weeked or 2
so while my motor is turbod im going to build another 1
we all no a n/a motor wont hold up very long to boost lol

i unstand what your saying and this would be the cheaper and better way to go
but if you think i can get a 7afe motor for 150
car will be down for a weekend getting turbod
once other motor is built ill throw it in(another weekend)
but if my cars down for a month then it'll be 80 dollars a week in gas for my truck times 4 equals 320 dollars in just gas for my truck
celica 35 at week times 4 equals 140
so im saving 180 in gas this way give or take a little money for gas after its turbod
Im not saying that installing a turbo on your car is a bad idea, I'm saying that trying to do some remote mount setup on a 1.8l 4cyl motor is the problem.

Remote mount setups are meant for v8 cars with huge engines that can push out enough exhaust to spool a turbo 10 feet away from the exhaust manifold. This setup simply will not work well on an st.
You'll end up loosing more then 180bucks.

Agreed.

thats why i was laughing in my original post. and again.. not laughing particularly AT you jonah.. i just couldnt imagine the 7afe being able to do a remote turbo. i feel youd be greatly dissapointed.

so would a clean 3s swap. ;-)

a 3s would be nice. im sure anybody who has a celica would love that. but problem is finding 1 and also dumping about 5 grand into it. would be nice if money grew on trees lol

lol. that is very true. again...not SAYING you should do a 3s. i know they are expensive... but also they are more reliable than a remote mount turbo'd 7a. just constructive criticism.

but definetely keep us updated with your build
