So I asked my mech to install an oil press. gauge and he did. I noticed it was tapped into the block and I asked him about the debris from the drilling if it would cause any scoring or anything. He said they grease the drill bit so the debris sticks to it or something and they use a magnet too. It sounds weird to me, is this accurate????
Oil Pressure Gauge - 6G Celicas Forums
I've heard of people drilling and taping the oil pan for a turbo set-up using that method, but not into the block.

I agree with centaur, i thought they always did it into the oil pan not the block.

ive heared of people doing it with intercooler piping etc.
being a fitter and machinist by trade im not a fan of it, sure you can grease the tap and the drill bit, but is it worth risking ruining your engine??? i think not.

he tapped into the block?
or head?
like 'pilot said, sure, it may work, but why would you wanna risk it IMO.
if he did drill and tap the block, get some pics, i would love to see where he did so.

He said block, I haven't seen the car yet since it went it the shop early last week. I should be getting it back Monday. I will post up later monday evening. Thanks guys but now I am a little worried about it.
wtf? just get a T fitting and T off of where the stock pressure sender threads into. or use an oil filter sandwich plate to get pressure reading.

Alright guys, so my mechanic put the oil pressure gauge into the head. Here's another question though, after I installed the header, hi flow cat, removed the small cat at the original exhaust mani, and with the SRI and Exhaust Muffler I have now, should I tune the car?? What'll happen if I don't?

nothing will happen if you dont.
you could benifit a little from tuning out some of the fuel curve with somthing like an SAFC, but its not somthing you HAVE to have right now.

it can be done in the block, i have personally done this. yes you can use grease and a magnet to prevent shavings from getting the system but i dont recommend it. i did it because i had to do it that way.
you cant do oil pressure at the pan, there is no pressure in the pan. its all after the oil pump. the best place to do it is like hoe the FTE guys get oil for the turbo. get a bypass fitting for the head where the factory pressure switch is.

Good to know about the tuning issue, I've already spent my max $ limit anyway. My mechanic said my car was a real pain in the a$$ to work on too. He said it took him like 2 hours to get the timing correctly set up. I still don't have it back yet but he said monday so I'll let y'all know how it runs.
>
wow.
if your mechanic takes 2 hrs to set mechanical timing on a 5sfe, its time to start looking for a new mechanic.

no kidding, that takes 20min tops...including warming the engine to operating temp.

Alright, I got the car back today. Just drove it home 20 miles. My mechanic had to put a new flex pipe on with some new bigger piping as well. I had the Hi Flow cat installed at the same time with the header which is wrapped. It sounds good but not like I suspected.
Will it get louder and throatier eventually???
Also, what is the correct PSI at normal operating temp (at idle) for the oil pressure??? Mine is run from the head. It reads 10 PSI at idle and at 65MPH it reads 55 PSI steadily. It kinda seems low to me but I don't know. I checked the oil and it's at the right level and nice and clean. No leaks under the cars except for some brake fluid but that's an old issue.

it may get a tiny bit louder, but not much at all.
oil pressure sounds about right..i get ~ 12.5 at idle.

Cool, good to know about the oil pressure.
I thought the header with an opened exhaust and hi flow cat would sound kinda on the mean side, but it actually sounds like there's no header at all. It will get louder over the next couple hundred miles right?
By the way, how do I post pics?

i cant really say if it will get louder.

Alright, thanks
Another quick question...I asked about Oil Pressure. Mine reads 10 PSI (into the head) at idle under normal operating temp. Presure2 mentioned his was 12.5. I've noted that my Oil Press reads 35 PSI at 2K rpm and 49 PSI at 3K rpm. Does this sound accurate?
>
yes
