Would swaping in a ST215 3SGTE be any harder than Swapping in one from an ST205? If so do both engines have the same potential. I'd like to be making 300 to 400HP from it after all is said and done.
ST215 Engine Swap - 6G Celicas Forums
price per HP you would be better off doing a 185 swap - more parts for it and you can order parts from local toyota dealer
99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
ST185 is the easiest swap - and when i say easy, I mean not really that easy. ST205 swap is difficult for the experienced, I dont even kno if ne body has done the 4th Gen 3SGTE swap simply because the motor is not all the old so its really expensive, and the wiring is 100x harder because cars get more electronic and more computerized every year.

Will the ST185 3SGTE be able to handle 300 to 400HP. I figured since the ones from the ST205 and ST215 had higher HP ratings that they'd be able to handle more. Maybe I'm a little confused but wouldn't it be easier to put one from the ST205 or ST215 into an ST202 since they are of the same years. Wasn't the ST185 the 5th Gen Celica All-Trac?
The blocks are basically identical.. the top ends are where the differences are between the engine gens.
The 215 as far as I know has different motor mounts but is still a "s" series engine so maybe it would work - havent really looked into it.
The 185 is the best option unless you have alot of cash to modify the 205. The 185 stock internals will hold around 400hp no prob, any higher though and you will have to bump up the internals.
as for the same years... it really doesnt make that much difference - if it's JDM you will still have to lengthen the harness 185 or 205. the mounts are pretty much all the same between 165,185,205

Thanks for the help NEVERSTOP sounds like the 185 is the way to go. What kind of internals should I go with. Would the APEXi 2.2l Stroker kit and Metal head gasket be a good start or should I start somewhere else. Would the Stroker kit make that big of a difference or should I even bother. Also what's the highest HP output from a 3SGTE you've heard of?

New Toyota project coming soon...
The HKS one would probably be one of the highest.. but not sure what it was off hand just know it was a BIG number... expecally from a 4 cylinder.
I wouldnt bother with a stroker kit or anything until you wanna go above 400 but you could do it if you want.

Thanks guys. Sounds like you know what you're talkin bout. I would definately put the stroker kit in while it was out rather than pulling the engine to do it later. What I'm really looking for is potential in the engine so that I can run it at 400 and be able to add on later or crank up the boost. Now that you mention it I remember seeing the HKS one and yeah it was pretty powerful but I heard a rumor that it was actually a modified 5s block. Have you heard anything like that?
The mechanical part of swapping is easy, its the electrical part which is th emost difficult.

When I get my car and do the swap, I was thinking about the JUN Stroker Kit. I've heard some good things about JUN and not really anything bad, so, they seem good.
From what I understand, the Stroker Kit allows you to turn up the boost TONS because of the extra displacement and strength of the components.
HKS did a car that runs 9's, and that is equipped with a 3S-GTE. The power possibilities of this monster is unreal.
