So what happened to the guy making the kits for the heater control lights. I need to do my clock and heater controls but don't want to just jump in not knowing what the heck I'm doing. I'd like to change them to blue to match the rest of the interior. Anyone know what type/size the lights are inside there. Oh yeah what type of bulbs are in the ignition key and cigarette lighter ring?
Heater Control Lights - 6G Celicas Forums
Charlie was the one who was selling the kits, but now he's back in school, plus he's working full time, rebuilding a GT-Four, paying off his brand new turbo Protege, and a whole lot more, plus he's trying to sell his car if he hasn't yet. So he's hardly ever online.
The lights inside there are small LEDs that have to be soldered in, and unless you know how to solder fairly well, Charlie and Doggy don't recommend doing this. As far as the ignition key and cigarette lighter ring, I'm not sure, as I don't have either of those in my car.

im doing my heater controls red it isnt easy. you have to do alot of soldering im still not done i ran into some problems doing it. but most of it is lit up now and my ac button is blue when you turn it on, it looks good i cant wait to finish it ..........
just trying to figure out how to make single led's really brite does anyone know ?

well i have been messing with resistors they light up but not really brite so im thinkink of getting other resistors and see if they'll gget briter
reason for resistors - because i have a short in my board and it keep frying out the 3 leds that light up the whole box so i made my own circuit ... just cant seem to get them ass brite as the other leds ........ (leds that Isoldered to the curcuit board)
I'm using clear wide angle leds from radio shack they light up red ..

radio shack has blue leds i'll take a pic tomorrow of what it looks like all lit up they're really brite go to radio shack and look for clear lense wide angle leds and buy whatever color you want i might try and finish my lights tomorrow
I dont know how big a mini neon is but there isnt alot of room in there plus you don't want to block the buttons go to radio shack they have the leds ur looking for i'll get the pic up tomorrow of my ac switch its blue and its mad brite.....
and i'll post a pic of my board so you can see all the lights i soldered if you have soldered before you can do this project i'll get back to you guys

i'll post the pics of what you need to buy tomorrow and some more pics and maybe i'll post the wiring pics too see ya later
I will return one day.
That is sweet! I have to have that in my car.
Would a 7th gen celi control fit in the 6th gen..their controls are kinda sleek(er)..
this is what i used to make my lights red
Wide Angle LEDs
1.7 volt - 20mA - 800mcd
Resistors
470-Ohm - 1/2 Watt - 5% tolerance
here is a pic of the packages

Does anyone have any suggestions for other resistors that would make the leds even briter? Like those little led key chains ! I hope this info helps you guys out !
If you decide to do this mod be careful with the curcuit board and take ur time doing it. This took me three times and I'm still not done but I'm like 99% done with it. I wasnt careful with the board lol but now I am
If you have any questions let me know

You can run... say 220 ohm resistors... and higher mcd LEDs... say 15000 or so. I reccomend 10000+ presonally...they're a lot brighter, with 220 ohm resistors. As far as soldering them into the controls... heh... I'm not so brave as to try...just yet.
awesome thanks for the info! do you think i could run the leds i have now with 220 resistors and make them briter with out blowing them out ?
Do you know where i could get my hand on some of those leds ? Do you think radio shack has those ? If anyone knows where to get those really brite leds please let me know
thanks guys >

Neat job >
> A few questions I have...
Were the standard lights you took out actually LED or just miniture bulbs?
Do you have to solder the resistors to the heater board or on a seperate circuit board.?
What about the clock - can that be changed to red?

Wow thanks for all the help. I didn't excpect such a response. I do have a few other questions though. What is the part number for the Radioshack stuff I can't make it out in the picture? Also is the voltage inside the heater control 12v or is it something different. If I knew that I'd be able to tell what size resistor would be needed to get the most out of your led. Also what was the info for the blue led? Was it Radioshack as well? 1.7v? 20ma? 800mcd? The only blue led I found on Radioshacks website was 3.7v 2600mcd 20ma part# 276-316. If only I knew the voltage in there I'd have everytihng I need to get started. All blue is what I'm going for anyways.

I never did memorize Ohms law but I always thuoght that if the number of ohms went up the resistance went down wich would mean more voltage to the led. So if I'm understanding Ohm's law correctly 220 ohms would actualy cause the brightness to go down. Please correct me if I'm wrong because I very well could be. an 800 ohm resistor would be about the most you could put in there if I'm doing the math correctly.
20ma = .002A?
20ma = .002A?

> The blue led I used is just like the red ones. I did not use a board to solder the resistors i just soldered the resistors to the positive terminal on the leds and ran new power wires for the the major lights . the indicator lights (show you where the air is blowing out ) little light on top of all the button i soldered to the factory board as well as the ac light no resistors were needed for these lights the board already had resistors on them. And the standard lights are little bulbs with green caps on them. and for my project it seems that the lower the ohm the briter it got so i cant really give you an answer but that what happend to me
I'll post the part numbers when i get home (tomorrow night) thursday night
and im guessing that its 12 volts inside the control box
but i used resistors only for the 3 lights that light up the whole control box everything else i soldered into the board with out resistors
well hope I answered all your questions
if any more post them and i'll help you guys out as much as i can and when i get a chance im gonna look for briter leds when i find them i'll put up some pics of the other side of the board
oh and i will be working in the clock next
will post when i figure that one out
sorry long post >

I will return one day.
i have 220 ohm resistors on my 3000 mcd leds for my angel eyes. they work pretty good and bright. about ohms law: less resistance (ohms), more current (brighter)
Ohms = ( voltage of battery - Voltage of led ) / Amp of led
i think im also going to try the heater control lights with blue leds

So defgeph, you said that your board has a short in it. Is that something that you messed up on or is there no short at all and could the 12v through the 1.7v LEDs be cauing the LEDs to burn out. That's what I've been able to peice together so far. Sounds like the bulbs with the green caps on them are 12v which would be the reason for no resistors and the other LEDs on the board have resistors so that's why they're not burning out. Assuming I'm correct, which I hardly ever am, you could track the positive trace from the indicator LEDs back to their resistor and look at the colors on the resistor and take the colors up to radio shack and tell them, and if they are competent, they'll be able to tell you exactly what ohm rating you need. Oh yeah almost forgot. the part number for the blue LED you used would be a HUGE help. I'll try and get started on the heater controls today or tomorrow since I'm off work. That way I won't sound like an >
> $$ talking about stuff I know nothing about. Hope any or all of this helped otherwise I apologize for wasting your time.

the part number for the blue led is 276-316. and the 220 ohm resistors are 271-1111 you can go to radio shack they have them.
I did track the positive on the curcuit board that how i got theoriginal resistors but today I bought 220 ohm resistors and 3000 mcd leds I want to see what I come up with this time umm and i caused the short on the board when I tryed to take out the control box (i didnt Know about the two cables) I was taking it apart from the dash lol
let me know if you have any more questions im gonna try and put the new leds in tonight
