Need Help with Turbo 4AGE - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #66110 13 posts Started by jmeyer
I recently pruchased a 96 corolla with a turbo'd silver top 4age. Since then I have driven it for a few hours and it runs fine. However tonight I was out and I noticed when I got on the throttle, the engine would cut out at 4000 rpm and the oil pressure light would kick on, however if I let off on the throttle and it dropped back down to 3000 rpm it went off. I was checking the boost gauge and it was spooling fine. The car just lost all pull after 4000 rpm. Checked the oil levle and it was fine. It was cold out (around 32f) but I don't think that would cause this. I'm runnig 7 psi of boost and 93 octane. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well how did you check the oil level? how is your oil cooler set up (bolts up or down/side), it takes another bunch of oil you know, as well as the oil relocation lines do! also if your turbo is oil feed, it consumes another amount, so the dipstick readings would be wrong if the oil doesnt stay in the cooler/relocation/turbo lines. if it stays there, then its ok. add oil pressure gauge to see what happens. and dont destroy a new engine!! good luck!

p.s. show some pics of engine bay smile.gif

Problem solved, a bad oil sensor was causing the ecu to enter a safe mode, retarding ignition.

glad i wasnt the first one-i thought i would get yelled at, sweet car
although im curious, people all say that blacktop is better because of larger porting or something, yet everyone who swaps seems to get silvertop. is the silvertop an easy engine to come by? seems like if your going through the trouble of swapping you would just get blacktop.
not downing the car it is extremely nice and clean i just dont get that with the 4age
If you ever sell it, you know who to call
