7th gen TRD shifter not fitting - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #66172 8 posts Started by sugarfree
It doesnt line up with the existing holes. The car is being converted from an auto to manual. Any reason why the holes are not lining up or why the 7th gen shifter is not working...from what i read, the 7th gen trd shifter should work for our cars correct?
the 7th gen short shifter works, I don't think the 7th gen TRD one does.

Actually I thought the 6th and 7th gen TRD shifters were the same part - hence the spacers. Could be wrong tho

No I think the 6th and 7th gen TRD's are different, the spacers are just to bring it up since the linkage geometry is different. Plus isn't the 7th gen TRD for a 6 speed? (not that it makes much difference other than wider range for putting in reverse)

what you can do is, try to get the big plastic peice of a 6th gen and swap the shaft from the 7th gen TRD, that will give you a TRD short shifter and it'll line up with the holes.

the only reason why it doesn't fit is because of the interior design of both cars is completely different so the plastic has to accomodate to different sourrounding.

dont use the shifter asembly. just the shaft itself
