I ordered assemblies, but I was sent cartridges.

Return/exchange would not be an issue if not for getting a bad check that now ties up all my funds. I'd have to exchange for some monroe's plus pay the difference or wait on a refund, neither of which I want to do.

I have new mounts, and I'm wondering if I can put the KYB cartridges into the stock strut... base? I guess it would be called.

Anyone know if this is possible?

I've been rolling with 2 busted springs in the front for almost 2 months now and the horrific ride is really kickin my ass, thats 3000 miles of bouncing around on chicago potholes!

I hadn't considered mounting the new mounts on the old struts just so I can get the new stock springs in there for the time being... but I have these things and I'd really like to use them

that is how they are sent to u as cartridges. that how i got them when i ordered both front and rear kyb gr-2

the rear shocks come as a whole thing. when taking off the old front strut cartridges, be careful to not let the fluid spill out. thats that keeps them from moving around. I used some motor oil to replace the fluid that spilled out. but don't take my advice on that, ask local autostore to see what they say about that. so far ive had my shocks installed for 6,000 miles. make sure u buy bump stops, so u dont bottom out ur shocks, or u can use existing bump stops if they are in good condition.

The place I ordered from was apparantly not so well informed... wonder why everyone else sells the full unit and KYB only has the cartridges?

No matter, the only part of my front struts in one piece is whats needed - but the haynes manual makes no mention of how to dissasemble the strut unit itself?

well kyb front struts are cartidges and rear struts is the whole assembly. if you want oem springs i have some sitting in my garage...

Got one strut in today after finally tracking down someone who had the boots and bump stops in stock.

No suspension up front combined with a super soft old tired suspension in the rear was a horrible horrible combo! Not only did ever bump feel like a giant pothole, but with anyting but the smoothest shift the car would BOUNCE very badly. Even with just the one good strut in now its a magic carpet ride , amazing the difference .

I was forced to learn how to drive smooooothly, and reminded what the sh!tty pothole infested roads up here can do to a tire if proper care isn't taken to just go around the really bad roads.

Was all very straightforward too, the KYB cartridge dropped right on in with no fuss and everything lined up just fine.

Very very glad I got new mounts/bearings... the steering wheel feel is so nice now, can't wait to do the other side... but not so much looking forward to those extremely rusted bolts!

Stiffer springs would be nice though, and a very very mild drop.

well ya easy drop in for the front cartridges. only problem is if i sit on top of the right front fender and jump up and down to make the shocks work, it makes a little thump noise. That could be that the rubber pieces that hold the spring together on top and bottom are outta place. but so far so good no problems what so ever.
