>Mom's crazy overprotective. She "lost" my birth certificate so I couldn't get my permit. Finally convinced her to let me get a job; they closed after 3 paychecks. So, I have no money, no job, and now no ride to get to a job if one of the freaking 100 places I put in an application at ever calls. And dad told me if I kept good grades and stayed outta trouble, he'd get me a car. I had a $2000 budget for my 3.7 gpa. So I don't exactly feel spoiled or anything here... But yea, I was dumb for racing it.
A. I doubt that your mom is crazy overprotective.
You're not living this kid's life, so don't assume. I grew up with a pretty overprotective mother myself, and have seen it with others the type of mom who "lost" the birth cert. so the kid couldn't get his/her license. This really does happen. I'm not saying one way or the other in this case, but don't assume you know this kid.

If he has $1500, whether he earned it or his parents gave it to him, don't you think that's between the OP and his parents? Again - I just think this is really judgmental. We're not living the OPs life, he is. He's a dumbass for racing his car, yes. But cut the kid some slack until you/we know the details.

He said his mom won't let him get another job (?). Agreed though - replace the 5s w/a used one for a few hundred bucks, and boost it.

WORD UP

I wish I had it like that when I was in HS. I was lucky and my mom was able to provide well for me, but I DEF wasn't spoiled like that (which I'm glad for)
