Quick: I've got 2 half moon metal things and my valve cover off, w - 6G Celicas Forums

As the title implies. I've got these two metal half moon washers that the parts guy recommended when I ordered the gasket for my valve cover. I've got the cover off and am ready to put everything back together. Where do these things go?

TiA!

No. They are 'Cam Plugs' as a quick part number search brings up.

I didn't see them when I took the whole thing apart. Either way I've got to do it again. Something's not right and I have a huge puddle of oil....

Also, I'm now noticing there was some silicon-rubber-ish sealant used for the 'cover near the cams and the distributer. Is this something required?(The sealant.)

Thanks very much.

You need this:

How far were you digging in your engine? I just did my valve cover and I didn't have any washers that came out. What engine do you have?
USDM GT would have a 5S. When I did the valve cover gasket on my 7A there wasnt any washers either.

theres washers where the spark plugs would go into under the caps
The only things I had were the 4 nuts and then under those were these that look like a washer on top and a gasket on the bottom.

I don't recall seeing anything half moon shaped, so he must have dug deeper than just the cover on a 5s.
The half moons are in the head itself, right next to where the cams stick out of the head on either side. You didn't really need new ones and if you're old ones weren't leaking you don't have to do anything with them, you could reseal them if you wanted to or if they are leaking.

I have no good pictures of a 5S, only this one of the engine that came out of my Solara, just to give a general idea at least

The half moon cam plugs are always directly in line with the cams. The half moon "holes" in the head are necessary in order to line-bore the cam bearing saddles. The only heads that don't have them are the ones where the bearing saddles are above the "deck" level, i.e. the level of the perimeter valve cover seating surface.
Aaah, I know what you are talking about now.
