I'm planing to turbo my 7A engine, but I realize that I can swap that 7AGE to 4AGE 20v Black Top and then turbo it.

so since my Celi have an A engine the swap will be less work than swapping to a 3SGTE engine or the will be a hard swap, also don't know if I can use the same tranny or I need to change it.

a 4AGE 20v Black Top, is much better than my 7AGE, and it looks that just fits into the car, so have any of you do this kind of swap ???

4AGE blacktop is probably the worst motor choice if you're looking to turbo it. It has very light internals, and you will destroy it with forced induction. If you must do a 20V, do a silvertop, as it has stronger internals, and only 5hp less (real world numbers, not Toyota's numbers) than the blacktop. Back in 2007 I was talking with the owner of the local tuning shops who specializes in 4AGE applications told me to save my money and stick with a silvertop- especially if you want to eventually go turbo.

that being said, yes your Celica can have any A series engine bolt right up to the stock C52 transmission and motor mounts.

good to know that, didn't know the black top have this kind of problems if you want to turbo.

the black top have a few problems with the fuel admission and is kind of delicate, does the silver top share this kind of problem ???

on any case this a good news since the silver top is little cheaper than the black top LOL

get the blacktop 20v and just use your 7afe bottom

the best option for turbo is a 4agze, it has forged internals from factory, and it's boost ready as it coems with a supercharger, so throw that supercharger on the gargabe can and turbo it. try to find one from a levin, use the transmission that comes with it also, it's stronger and it has LSD, if you do your research and do things right, some 4agze's are putting down over 300 hp with a GT28rs turbo.

one last option if you have the money a 7agte with standalone

And the 20V head isn't a bolt on deal with the 7A bottom end. Wouldn't be anywhere near cost effective to do it that way, albeit very awesome.

I would highly go with Culpable with that one. The 4agze is the best bet, especially for a turbo with it's 8.9:1 compression ratio. It already is made strong enough for force induction in its stock form. Like the others have said, the blacktop is a no go due to the lighter internals ie: thinner con rods, high comp. pistons, 11:1 compression, etc. As well as the silvertop except it does share the stronger con. rods as the 4agze, the piston alone will not withstand boost due to it's 10.5:1 compression ratio. So the only way to work it out with a the silvertop is to use a set of turbo-application pistons, like the ones from ARIAS, to lower the compression to 8:1 and also a Multi-Layer Steel Headgasket about 1-2mm thick. But do keep in mind that it will be expensive to buy parts for it and keep it maintained for the life of the engine, believe me I know! and since the 4agze is already a beefed up stock 16v 4age, maintenance as well as performance parts are more easier to find and cheaper then the 20v counterparts. You just need to understand that with force induction, you are increasing the compression within the combustion chamber of the engine in a dramatically, so with something that already has high compression pistons and then adding a turbo, you'll do nothing but destroy the pistons or maybe even through the rod through the block.

now that you mentioned in that way, didn't think about the compression ratio of this 20v engines, when I start on this i almost do the Franky LOL between the 4AGZE and the 7AGTE that Nik's have, thats to much job and needs to be well done or you can blow the engine. So i keep going for the 7AFTE, now thinking on the possible things that could when wrong on the chambers since is not for a turbo.

so I will go for the 4AGZE, is not a sexy 20v but this will save me a lot of headaches..

Thanks Nik for the offer but as Culpable said here in Costa Rica the customs make our live a living hell with the taxes, jut to give you an idea, for a car, engine and related to our hobby the cost of the taxes is about 70-80% of the price. so if the engine is about 2k they will charge 70-80% of the price in taxes
