Whenever I turn my car on the rpm's are at 2 and they'll stay there, if I brake hard they may start going up and down between one and two thousand. Any ideas anybody?

You may have a vacuum leak. Go and check out all of your vacuum lines.

omg, that sucks, but anyways, check for vaccum leaks first, try using a squirt bottle full of soapy water, or a can of carb cleaner, spray down all of your vaccum lines, and intake gaskets, if/when u hit the leak with the fluid u are spraying the idle will change, carb cleaner works best. if u dnt find any leaks then test your map/maf, tps, and iacv.

I've found one torn hose, it's supposed to be connected to the charcoal canister.. A friend told me that I should clean out my Egr valve, that that may have something to do with it.

Alright cleaned out my throttle body and reconnected that hose. By doing this I raised the idle to 3k............ so I'm starting to think maybe it's the tps.
your maf, and or tps may be the issue, have them both tested, if u have acces to alldata or mitchel under sensor diagnostics u should be able to find the proper resistance values for those sensors, or a chilton manual may have the same info on how to test them. hope this helps

take your intake tube off and start your car, and look at your throttle plate at idle, it should be almost closed, if its open then something is binding, try that first.

O well it's almost closed and everything is pretty straight, but I figured I'm just going to give in. Damn so it's at the mechanic today.
let us know, and if the figure it out, just take it home and fix it yourself, save yourself some money
Lift Addict!! ^_^----------------------
glad u got it all figured out

Is the iac replaceable, or did you have to have a complete replacement throttle body fitted?
Just had my 6G repaired after it started to do exhibit the exact same problem.
Local name for the faulty component was the "Idle Motor." (read "Servo")which is mounted in the throttle body unit.
Toyota Genuine Part was priced in excess of $Aust 600.
My repairer fitted a non genuine (but made in Japan) unit, at 1/2 the cost. (Go figure-- who is making a buck here)
Problem solved now.
