exhaust manifold designs - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #67088 30 posts Started by easternpiro1
hey all, been researching good designs for an exhaust manifold. if some of you dont know, there have been issues with my exhaust manifold from day one and essentially i wasnt happy with its design and quality, (is currently leaking from the flange near the turbo, and wastegate off one runner)so like lagos says: do half assed once do it right the 2nd time.

i will stop there or else i will start a rant. but anyway, anybody got some decent design pics? i want a tubular equal length header , of course with w/g coming from where all 4 runners converge. I got a few ideas from tweak and Pitcelica and a few others.

here's some that i like:

<<(thanks pit)

here is a pic of how its currently set up,

the shorter the runners the better

what material would you suggest? (gauge?) i was told several different things, im narrowing it down. and also, im not very confident in this guy's welding, since they screwed up the first time by sending it off to someone, theyre doing it in house, and i know they half ass alot, so i will be viewing pictures of his work soon.

Why dont you grab a stock 3rd gen manifold, and use a t3 adapter? Thats going to be more reliable than any tubular manifold (unless you spend big money on one).

yeah i agree with lagos here is what mines look like

cleanest and best way i think biggrin.gif

with the heat shield
Yeah, I have a 3rd gen 3s exhaust manifold for sale right now..

I think you should separate all 4 runners and make a flange for each of them.
This way you can run 4 turbos = 4X the boost.

Can't beat that.

here's a couple of pics of my manifold they are all equal length and run onto one before the collector could be made into twin scroll easy as

mines consists of a standard ST205 manifold (not WRC, my car is the WRC spec though) ported and polished as far as it can safely go, custom T3 to T4 wastegate flange for 60mm wastegate, custom down pipe into HKS supersilent system. Pics will come shortly

This looks amazing. i love it
i much prefer equal lenghts

im curious of how a log manifold will be more reliable than a equal length one? is it because of the wastegate flange
leaking? or is there something special about the stock manifold. (serious question)

do you have a wastegate dump tube? or do you just let it open in your engine bay?

that was when the turbo kit was still getting put in biggrin.gif the dump tube goes all the way down...

STOP GOING BACK TO THOSE CRAPTASTIC CRAP HOLE

go somewhere that does it right the first time, or i'm taking a trip to visit you and put foot in ur ass

youre right bro! youre absolutely right, i would just as soon take it to this great welding shop near me, but theyre doing it for free (since they screwed up) i tried to have it sourced elsewhere, but they want to save money that I GAVE THEM in the first place... dont understand the logic in their stance, dont really care but imma see what this guy's work looks like before i commit.

Honestly Matt.. get a stock manifold and an adapter. If that shop wants to make it up to you by fixing the problem, then hand those parts to them, and have them install them and make you a dump pipe for the waste gate.
If they start trying to fab up some tubular design manifold, then you will probably have the same problem again.

Reliable doesn't mean higher performance.
Cast iron is less apt to crack than tubular steel.

BTW the stock manifold isn't a log manifold.
if i got the stock manifold, i can clean it up etc, but still be out some $. and im also unsure about fitment without having to change all of the exhaust around, but enh... imma talk to them tomorrow see whats good.

I agree with the stock 3rd gen manifold + adapter. Port the stock manifold, coat it with some ceramic coating for the look and function, and ask those guys to modify your downpipe to make it fit with the new manifold/turbo location.

Unless you really want that bling-bling style of ss manifold, the stock manifold has no disadvantage vs ss manifold. You'll not notice any performance gain.

Sam
I just talked to them, theyre saying that they tried to fit a 3rd gen manifold on there but bolt patterns were different, i asked how this could be (since i bought the 3rd gen exhaust gasket). they insist it wouldnt match up on the block side, i know better though.

**** them.

money back and go somewhere else. That and just make them take a picture to prove it.
Yeah they are screwing with you bro... A 3rd gen manifold WILL fit. You sould know that.. Buy my manifold and an adapter and have the douches fit the dp.

i know it! lol i told them why wouldnt the manifold fit when the gasket does, but we shall see....

sounds like they just want you to pay for a custom manifold. Have them show you that it doesnt fit. if it doesn't, then you probably received the wrong manifold.

If it does, have them make the dump pipe go all the way down, and make the DP fit the exhaust and you are done! save your money and get something else that will give your better performance like a walbro fuel pump or a water injection kit.
here ya go. go with this design laugh.gif

Sorry guys we appreciate the critical comments. This was our first custom manifold on a fourth gen 3SGTE. Matt requested a custom manifold at the time of the build. We are not charging him any additional money to make this right so our customer is happy. Everyone makes mistakes.....especially with very limited information on the fourth GEN 3SGTE. We are willing to admit our mistakes. WE DO TAKE CARE OF OUR CUSTOMERS! Matt will have the manifold corrected at no charge!

Thanks,

Chris
this is true^^^ I appreciate it.
