AutoX Thread - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #67106 19 posts Started by jimmykay
So Sunday I went to my first AutoX of the year, and 3rd one ever. It was lots of fun and yesterday I got the results emailed to me.
It was a Boeing car club AutoX so it was relatively small. 17 cars total 2 in HS

I ended up finishing 9 of 17 after the PAX, 2 of 2 in HS behind an '07 Mazda 3
My times weren't bad and kept improving
66.291 +2 cones
78.349 +1 cone (spun out around a slalom)
65.300 +0 cones
64.331 +0 cones
63.821 +0 cones
61.517 +0 cones

I was figuring out how to better enter the gates by the end of it.
It was so much fun. I can't wait until next month to do it again.

While autocrossing yesterday I found that when cornering at speed, the rear of my car was wanting to come around on me.

While it was fun steering with my right foot, I was wondering if there is anything I could do to help improve the stability of the rear end. I know I’ll be needing new tires this winter, but is there anything else that I could do to help with this?

'99 Celica GT - Sold'11 Mazdaspeed3
it will want to do that.
i had it happen to me when i braked too hard. but that was all in the past

lowering it and adding neg. camber increased the rear stability for me. i still need to do a bit of tweaking but im just trying to get as much street time as i can

results for my past event
i did alright. well not in my class. but overall

i might be switching to ST. it seems like i might succeed in that class more. i can stay in there until i get some ecsta's then go back to fsp

excellent. coilovers and sway bars are probably next on my list anyway. I'm still waiting for the results to come in, but I think I ran pretty well. I know I hit a few cones, but that happens.

'99 Celica GT - Sold'11 Mazdaspeed3
i cant afford to hit any cones lol. i have cone stickers. each time i hit one i put a sticker on the car. i have 6 so far this season. none the past 2 events luckily

sways are the best you can do if your on a budget. handling improves ten fold

My original shocks are holding up ok, but when they go, then i'll replace them with coilovers. Hopefully they'll make it into next year. 152K and counting.

Thanks for the advice. Thats a neat Idea for the cone stickers. I'd probably run out of room if I went to all of the events. I think I hit more than 6 cones in just that last event.

It's my autoX schedule. of which, I've only made it to 2 events.
I'm in the Boeing Sports Car Club and they have events in the parking lot of building #33 off of Lindbergh.

and the SCCA events are held at Gateway. There's even one this Sunday, but I'll be out of town and won't make it to that one.

I had no idea that there were that many autocross events in the Lou. I'm not too far from there, just a couple of hours, and I have some friends going to school over there. I'll have to get over there and check it out after I do a little more work to my car.

My times from the last AutoX
70.720 +0
68.032 +2 cones
67.044 +1 cone
66.493 +0
65.272 +0
67.200 +0

I know my car isn't set up to win an event, I was 6 seconds behind first. But it is a lot of fun. That course was set up so that I could actually steer with my right foot and it was a lot more open for the larger cars to stay competitive.
I bumped up to STS because of my exhaust and header, and I think I did ok though. I was 2nd of 4 in class and 11th of 15 overall.
I still might have another event or two in me this season. it just depends on what's going on around the house.

I had my first AutoX of the season last weekend and here are the results.

There was an amazing 40 people there.
DNF
67.577 +0 cones
64.800 +0 cones
67.098 +2 cones
64.316 +0 cones

20/40 overall 3/6 in class (ST)
Thats a lot better than I thought I did.
