I'd like to try it, see what difference it may make

The A/C doesn't work anyway...

Any belt reccomendations? I'm sure its been done before but I haven't been able to find anything specific on here or the net.

btw, you wont really notice a difference, unless your driving around with your a/c on.

all pulling your ps belt is gonna do is make the car harder to drive. no fun.

there's a how-to on removing the A/C off a 3sgte here. and all the necessary parts are here, but i'm not sure if the same parts apply for the 5sfe.

Not having to drive the power steering should free up a few HP i'd think? Regardless, I'm just trying to simplify things, take away things I don't need that could cause issues in the future .

The 3sgte writeup is a bit confusing, though it may be applicable, I'm wondering why the 3rd pulley is there? My plan was to just have the belt driving the alternator and thats it, am I missing something?

if you're looking for power, you should be looking at turbo swaps or 3sgte engine swaps... you'll have much bigger power gains this way than anything else... sure it'll cost a lot more but comparing it on a power to price ratio, it's your best option.
by just removing the power steering (probably get less benefit than advantage) and the A/C system (VERY little gains btw unless your looking at weight loss) , you won't really get much.. it's not worth the hassle. turbo it or don't even bother....

there is no extra pully with the 5s.

you just remove the ac, and replace the belt with a non ac belt.

if your going to remove the power steering (which i think is a bad idea because it'll be damn heavy and cars without power steering as standard have made every advance possible to make the steering lighter to aid the driver whereas power assisted cars didn't need to think like that as mechanical parts were doing the work). Get yourself an electric power steering pump, it takes the load off the engine and saces your arms a bit.

Turbo is the eventual goal, right now I'd like to do every possible supporting mod that won't cost a bundle.

The car sees tons of highway, I'd REALLY like to get a few mpg extra.. as of now I've managed a 30mpg tank but it likes to burn up gas when I keep up with traffic...

The torque curve doesn't at all fit my driving style, power up top would be so much more preferable... I know doing little stuff like this is like beating a dead horse and expecting him to come alive... but until something greater comes along...

The electric power steering pump sounds like a good idea - my yaris had that and I was very happy with it (until some random gremlin turned it off for a few weeks, then went on his way). A much more optimal setup IMO. I know its not a great comparison (in regard to not having belt driven power steering), but the yaris was rated for ~105hp or so and would put 90hp to the wheels stock... if only the celica had so little drivetrain loss...

cut out the power steering belt today.

A slight gain throughout the range... feels like the difference between having a sub box in and taking it out.

Steering isn't hard at all - takes 2 hands to park but other than that its not bad. That said, I'm a pretty big guy (6'2 205) so take that into account.

Makes me want to put the car on a 200lb diet... wow would that make a difference...

if this is your daily driver, isnt hard at all will feel like crap in a month.

As an update, I've gotten completely used to putting forth some effort in turning - I like feeling more attached to whats really going on and daily driving is not an issue at all .
