Random Crack From Hell! When driving! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #67344 22 posts Started by Mstoochn
Been occuring for almost a month now, Gentle or aggresive driving (accel/brake) + right turns seem to cause a "crack" or knock sound -> (eg. turn right as you exit the turn *crack* u counter steer *crack*)

Engine mounts r still shining pretty, engine does not have accesive movement, tie rods ends make no noise when cranking the wheel while stationary.

More suggestions Please, as well as how to test your theory!

test this theory how?
pop your hood open ,find your axle and see if the boots are torn or if theres any grease anywhere

Cv boots are good, only sight of any substance where its not supose to be is oilfrom the oilpan (small leak) FIGP ftl..
its an axel. its probally the passenger side, carrier bearing.

I just replaced my axel and the bearing cuz they both went. (or 1 led to the other.)

Will look into it. But its not immediate?
its the axle. you want a vid of mines doing the same thing?

at a stand still i turn the wheel left to right and vice versa. all you hear is *click click click CLACK snap crackle pop*

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

Hmm.. there is no noise at a stand only when at speed or turning at speed
check wheel bearings as well but sounds like an axle.

to check your wheel bearings/hub's, jack the car up and take the tire at the top and bottom and push/pull on it...it should not move or make any weird noises, if it moves even a little bit you need new wheel bearings...do it side to side and top to bottom or in/out

I don't even have to lift my car off the ground to tell u they move side to side with the steering locked (about half an inch) i just use my HE-MAN super strength and rip them back n forth. wheel bearings or carrier bearings?
or tie rods... up and down is the test for wheel bearings.... left and right is inconclusive with the wheel on

Breaking Axles...

I've cranked the wheel not in motion and u dont here it then. doesn't that rule out tie's
the load it has to put up with. take that into consideration

i was referring to the left and right movement... just because the wheel moves left and right does not mean the wheel bearing is bad... up and down is the test for wheel bearing... your tie rods could be bad and not making any noise - a separate issue altogether

cv boot cv axel and tie rods and all surrounding bushings in the near by vicinity are fine. Spend 2 hours under it. still no diagnosis. wheel bearings seem fine
