looks like a fun project!
have you run it on the dyno yet?
whats the planned boost on each system?

since its not a 6gc, imma move this to offtopic, but im interested to see the results!

the bottom pic is the most recent. we just got the motor back in this past weekend. for right now, the supercharger is going to be pushing the stock 10lbs and then probably have the turbo pushing between 20 and 25lbs. with the old setup, it put 215 to the wheels but there were quite a few bugs/problems with that setup which is why I am redoing it. we (me and the guy that is helping me, shubert) are doing the "vw" setup which Im including a diagram of. Instead of having two "Y" pipes, there is going to be two filters with the filter by the turbo being after a 1 way valve. what will happen is when the turbo starts trying to pull more than the 10lbs the sc is feeding it, the 1 way valve will open and allow it to pull in fresh air also

nice! I'm still interested in doing a twin charge set up. Can't wait to see it finished!

Looks like an awesome project you got there.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread!
so is this just for show ?
or more for power?

just asking just cause it would be simplier to do a t3 super 60 turbo only set up and make good power

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte
whos doinf the work for you?

the work is being done by myself and another corolla enthusiast by the name of shubert.

as for my goals, they are show and go. we are going to be looking at cutting it off around 300-350whp which is good enough for me. there are definately easier ways of doing it, but i did want to build a "one off" car. as celicas, ya'll are at least looked at as sports cars but as a corolla owner, we are looked at as grocery getters and not performance machines even though we pretty much share the same engine bay.

i can tell you that it has been a PITA to keep it twincharged. I am on my third gze because of the problems with the setup before. we had to do some serious modifying to get the supercharger to stay on with that big port intake. we banged in the firewall to create some clearance for the sc since its cocked back a pretty good ways. we also had to modify the intake plenum of the sc, and the sc mounts to get it all to fit.

Welcome! I'm glad to see you made it over here. I check in on Tweak's site periodically to see what you're up to, glad you started a thread over here so us ST people w/4age or gze aspirations can follow and learn!
i actually live off of 42 which is considered fort valley but most people don't know where that is.....but considering you are in byron, you know where that is.....the hwy by giant foods

thanks. that just gave me some ideas. im gonna keep my open dump tube because i love the sound but i really like where you mounted the oil filter. i bet it makes it easy as hell to change your oil. how much did it up your oil capacity with the oil cooler and lines? I grabbed an extra quart. i figured it should be more than 1 quart

did you ever try the bigger hks crank pulley and see how the sc did than? Just wondering because i'm deciding wether or not to go that route or get a silver top

the VW set-up is designed with fuel economy in mind, not performance, twin charge + performance = fail, the supercharger will be taking more power than it can produce at higher RPMs thus, stealing for the turbo. Twincharge will have a great powerline tho. but if top end power is what you're after you should get rid of the supercharger.

This is an awesome project, I was thinking about a 4agte using a 4agze bottom and blue head and a GT28RS turbo, I even have a E58 tranny sitting around.

Good luck with everything,
Great project, I look forward to seeing more. smile.gif

JDM guy made me do it.
I actually had the blitz pulley on there before I did the twincharge setup but the ABV mod wasn't done so it wasn't doing anything. I gave the pulley to the guy that is helping me with everything and he did the ABV mod, and it is strong as hell. I would have been happy with a bigger pulley (that was doing any good) and would have never done the twincharge setup but that is neither here nor there. A 4agze with the NST pulley kit and a fmic would be a beast that I would be more than satisfied with.

as for the vw setup being for economy, that is with their goal. we are using the design of it but with higher boost and some small tweaks. the whole point of the one way valve is to let in the extra air so that the turbo isn't trying to pull more from the supercharger. instead of running off of one filter, we are using an additional filter, with the one way valve and right by the turbo, so that they aren't both feeding off the same air.

as big of a pain as it was to keep the supercharger, i almost went with the 4agte that you are describing. the gze bottom end is pretty much bullet proof and will hold the 350whp (that i'm going for) and with a bigport head, it is definately turbo ready. i also have an extra e58 laying around from the second motor.

I am really curious to see how the bottom end holds up, I have a 91 highcomp that is basicly the same bottom end aside from the pistons.

When you say an extra e58, do you mean for sale?

Good luck with everything,

the vw twincharged was not designed with just economy in mind , yes it can get 40 miles a gallon , but 170 hp and more in tq. is very high for a low boost 1.4 liter. the instantanious and continuous torque that keeps building in this setup is the winning factor , as described here:

http://www.automobilesreview.com/reviews/vw-jetta-gli/37/

i did about 80% of the designing and work on this particular engine and setup in this thread , and people in australia (before the vw market twincharge) have done this with upwards of 300 whp , with just a gt25. the main deciding factor on this build was the want for a 300+whp car with outstanding pull throgh out the rev range.

by boosting through the s/c ( like most twincharged gze's)theres also a lot more switches , controls , etc. to work out in the design also (not to mention the ginormous amounts of compressor presuure differences with s/c after throttle and turbo before throttle). with the s/c boosting through the turbo (s/c>turbo>intercooler), its a strait forward process , with no restrictions as far as the sc12 being able to turn the volume of air the turbo will be producing(like in turbo>s/c>intercooler).

yes super chargers can "multiply" boost , but a small 920 cfm per revolution sc12 isnt the s/c for the job. but however pushing its factory boost thru the turbo( 10 lbs) till the turbo spools (and then well after while the turbo is spooling , kind like feeding the turbo 10 lbs. of boost) ,it puts no limitations or restrictions in the system. the s/c and turbo both are free to spool whenever. one or the other at different rpms , or both in high rpms.

I completely admire the design and thoughts put on this, and I said it before, I would have done it turbo only, for simplicity sake, less piping, easy to find leaks ( if any ever pops up ) but I understand a turbo only set-up would not have the torque line this set-up will have. and thanks for the clarifycation on the Vw set-up, I didn't know it was a 1.4 with 170 hp.

Keep up the good work, we all look forward to see this completed and with excellent results.
well a couple of times, it almost turned into a turbo only build. it has been a pain to keep the turbo and supercharger. im trying to build something rare and 4agte's aren't rare but the twincharges are rare and even rarer in a 7th gen. We are seriously hoping to hear it crank this weekend

NextGenTuningCardomainTuneMyToyota
What is the ABV mod you are talking about for the blitz pulley?

2nd Gen 3s-gte.... It lives!97celiman"92-gt-quit making up random acronyms that dont mean anything. the only real acronym is JDM"
ABV mod

click link. the HKS pulley came with directions to do it but my motor that I imported, had the pulley already on so.... and i never knew about the ABV mod until about a year ago

How is the motor going to take 20-25 psi of boost. What pistons are you using? What internals have you changed?

wow - just stumbled upon this and i must say hats off to you guys

the region you are in i imagine fbodies and the likes are the "in" thing - and like you said a grocery getter rolla is just a laughing stock

glad to see you guys are using your heads instead of just slappin some parts on based on someone elses power recipe.

...runs over to club4a to fall in love with the 4age's again lol

you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!(2:27:32 AM) edit: please f*cking work, f*ck, sh*t, piss(2:28:08 AM) edit: that did the trick
we didn't change any of the internals on the bottom end because of how bulletproof the gze bottom end is. the rods and crank are forged, the pistons are forged and coated. so we put a 2.0mm HKS head gasket and a bigport head on and called it a day.

the fbodies are definately big down here. my buddy has a ws6 with a cam that I am calling out first. I took out his stage 2 srt-4 with the 1st twincharge build that was pushing 215whp

well we got a good bit done this weekend. got the manifold mounted, turbo and wastegate mounted onto the manifold, oil cooler adapter put on the block, harness installed and tucked, intercooler piping mocked up. doesn't seem like much but with this being so custom, we keep running into small issues that have to be ironed out. i'll get some more pics up soon

NextGenTuningCardomainTuneMyToyota
Got the FPR and all the fuel lines done. Put in the one way valve (which you can't see cause we are tight like that), T-pipe, and filter. Got some more wiring done. Hoping to post up some pics with all the intercooler piping done later.

We all the intercooler piping is mocked up and clamped in.
