What are the side (accent) bulbs on the Projectors for? Is it necessary to have them?

not neccessary USDMs never had them.

Side bulb is not required for state laws. It is for Japan tho. The side accent bulb is actually the celica drive lights. In Japan every vehicle over here is required to have them for driving (As a safety feature). The best way to illuminate them if that is wut u want to do is to hook them up with ur factory side markers. Granted they will flash when u hit ur turn signals but hey at least the person in front knows ur turning.

IIRC the sidemarkers dont blink.
like the guys have said, they are not required by law in the states.

USDM side markers do not blink, I do believe they do in JDM versions only because my ss-III harness for my parking lights do not include the signal wire, which could mean it blinks on the JDM side markers. It is only 2 wires compared to the US 3 wires which includes the blinker.
